I've been subscribed to this forum for the past few months. I've seen so many repairs issues in these threads, and I know, Thats the main reason for the forum. But I was just curious as to how much you have all spent in repairs and what your driving?

I myself have a 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3l / 5 speed / 2wd. She has 150,000 miles.
I bought the truck for $1,500 and I've put roughly $2,300 in repairs.
I've installed a Clutch Kit, New trans crossmember, Radiator, Water Pump, T-stat, a tailshaft seal, PCM, CPS, Timing belt, Exhaust/Manifold gasket, a few dealer only bolts, and a complete fuel pump assembly.

Well, again, I'm just curious, so let me know if you'd like.

Paid 3k for mine, better part of 2750 in parts alone. ... I really dont know how i feel about that....

windshield, ps pump, ps rack, ps hoses, water pump, timing belt, alternator, ps pump again, steering stabilizers, arm-rest console deally, plugs, wires, shocks, rear brakes, etc etc.

I've had my 94 Ranger for 10 years and the list is pretty short considering the fact that she now has 300K on the clock. Let's see...
upper and lower ball joints twice
u joints
clutch and slave cylinder
calipers and wheel cylinders
regular maintenance stuff like pads, rotors, drums and shoes
tires
wheel bearings
blower resistor set
starter X2
timing belt

In total probably about 3k in parts over 10 years and 200k worth of miles that I put on her. Not too bad if I say so myself. I almost forgot; I did rear cab mounts too.

i gotta see what "zamos" has to say about this topic!!

bought my truck for $500 as a winter beater. used it for almost 2 winters. had to replace all 4 tires, had the timing belt snap on me, had a wire for the fuel pump relay fall out stranding me on the side of the road, had to replace the battery cables. currently it is down for unknown reasons.

i quit counting, whats the point-it's worth it to me.i do have every receipt just so i can if i ever get a wild hair.

I bought my truck new in '98. It's racked up about 110,000 miles since then. So far, I've only had to replace the timing belt, upper and lower bj's, brake pads, and plugs and wires. The 4R44E is starting to slip between 1st and 2nd though...

Hey Red85!

When you did your balljoints, did it help with the handling at all? Mine have never been done and I think they need to be. Ranger's got 370,000 on it now. Thanks.

It definitely helps with handling, tirewear and safety. Check for play in them and replace upper and lowers at the same time. Just a safety note: these things are just a ball and socket and if there is too much wear, they will fall apart and leave you stranded. Luckily, they are easy to change. I can do all 4 in about an hour. If I lived closer, I would give you a hand!

Total, after paying for the truck and repairing several of the same things several times, about as much as a new ranger would have cost me...Keep in mind though that I have been broken down on the opposite end of the country before.

I have since stopped keeping track.

Too many to list...this is my second 88 Ranger...the first one had to be put down due to the firewall disintigrating...the new (second) one has never been on the road and I've rebuilt it including frame-off restoration...EVERYTHING is new or recently replaced...I'd say probably close to $5,000 invested over the last four years...but some of that could have been avoided...like cutting off the cab mounts and melting them...when I could have just cut the bolts...that was a $600 OEM parts outlay alone...

Rebuilt and installed a 2.3 when I should have stuck with the 2.9 auto that was in it and had that rebuilt...

I guess what I'm trying to say is this is one FREAKIN expensive hobby!...but I love working on it...and I've learned so much about auto mechanics that I think I should have become an auto technician instead of studying computer science...at least they can't outsource you...:)

Yeah, I'd say i'll stop keeping track after awhile. I guess i can consider repairs as a hobby now too!! haha Thanks for all the quick posts, Keep em coming!

So Dd, is your fuel pump/cutting out problem officially gone now? I hope so.

Thanks for the tech Red85!

I'm picking the truck up within 3 hours. They should call soon. Yesterday I got a call saying they finished, but it was 2 hours after they closed, so They're going to test drive it this morning. I sure hope it's fixed. Thanks for your help. I'll post whether or not it's fixed in a few hours.

I've not bought a Ranger repair part in a while.

I believe the last few bits I bought wre in like 06 (maybe) and they were a fuel rail and injector, alternator bracket for the turbo truck... then I bought a shifter bushing set and slave cylinder for the ugly red truck.

I usually just go through tires a lot. :D

Here you go Ghost - I bought my truck 2 yrs ago for $150.00 - It was a Company fleet vehicle so it was pretty rough body wise so most of the money spent on my rig was for cosmetic reasons - I enjoy tinkering with this truck as its pretty cut and dry to work on - So in all I have approximately $3000.00 invested. That includes the wheels and tires as the 14" steel wheels were replaced with 15" American racing aluminum wheels, Aluminum driveshaft out of a F150 Lightning and an 8.8 posi conversion out of a junkyard 95' 4.0 Ranger - Not to bad considering what a new truck would run me ! Any response Ghost ???!!! Most of my parts have been pulled from Wrecks at Crazy Rays - Its a pick and pull lot thats alot of fun to explore - Ghost let me know if you need me to look for your Honda parts .:icon_hornsup:
