I bought the OE paint color rustoleum spray can to paint a fender for my 2004 XL. Do you think one can will be enough? Pretty small surface area.

Depends on your prep and the quality of the finish you expect to get.

In general, no.

One can will not be enough.

Better to roll it on.....if there is a pint can version. For Rust-Oleum...I use spray bomb.....but my trucks are junk.....orange peel and ash help those ugly bastages...but noticed the roll/brush on stuff holds up better and longer.

Are you doing the inside as well? I would get 2-3 cans and do more than one coat, if you are trying to make it pretty.

Nah I’m doing it on my fenced patio with an awning so it’s nearly as good as doing it indoors

That will keep the dust out but fumes in, maybe run a dust fan/ air filter of some sort. If you want it to look pretty, I would prep it real good, and maybe even wet sand /polish after paint. Might even wanna throw a clear coat on it. They got some pretty good clears in a can for metal.

It depends on the paint too. A solid color is going to require less paint and work to blend it in than a metallic color will. Getting metallic to match will test your patience.

It really depends on the paint. I had some color match paint mixed up at a paint supply place for a fender on my F150 and it took about 2 cans, for a couple coats. You might be able to get away with one can on a Ranger fender but I would plan for two.

Metallic paint will absolutely require several coats, when I did the rust repair panels on my Explorer I had to do four coats before it really blended in with the factory paint. It is really thin and you will see primer through it for the first coat or two.
