So is it a for sure thing that its 28 spline?

Summit racing lists 94-00 Mazda B4000 as having a 31 spline axle for some odd reason. I just assumed that it would be the same for that same year ranger.

I've never heard of mazdas having a higher spline count but i guess it makes sense that they are the same.

Only three listed in Summit for the Mazda are 31 spline, I have a hard time believing that. Checks for the axle tag?
Dave

I dont have the axle tag anymore unfortunately but i have a picture of the door tag with vin numbers and stuff......but the library doesnt say how to specifically identify a 28 or 31 spline axle....they only say 28 spline for most rangers and 31 spline for FX4's with a torsen.

Look at the tubes. if they neck down right near spring perches it's a 28 spline, no neck down and it's 31. I can pretty much guarantee that you have a 28 spline.

Yep. 3" dia. tubes that taper to 2.75" at the leaf perch = 28 spline.

3.25" tubes = 31 spline.

Did the mazda's ever get the same options as the fx4's did? 31 spline 8.8 4.10's with a torsen?

Just curious, as I have never come across one.

yes unfortunately it does neck down thus a 28 spline. So my theory of the 4x4 B4000's coming with a 31 spline axle has been busted.

Summit racing then has a slight problem with their data base to what locker fits a certain year set.

I'm not aware of any.

They aren't the first ones...

See what mess you get into at any autoparts chain store if you need front axle, suspension or brake parts for your '90-'94 Ranger 4x4 and have 3.45 gears in the axles. :annoyed:

I have a b4000, would I have 3.73 gears in an 8.8?

Hey GB4000

check your axle tag... but you've probably got 3.73 depends if it has a tow package or not? but once again, as stated earlier, check your axle tag

I've tried that, I can't really make out the first numbers. I wasn't aware there was a tow package, how would I know if I had one?

Look at the door tag, that will tell you your axle code... Then look up the code in the Tech Library...
