How do i disconnect the speedometer cable from a 1988 ford ranger manual transmision?

How do i disconnect the speedometer cable from a 1988 ford ranger manual transmision?

I have tried pulling on it with a pair of pliers but the thing wont come out for the life of me and i didnt want want to pull to hard and end up ruining it...

should be pretty obvious, dont yank on it real hard its a plastic gear, just rotate it around while pulling you have to disengage the teeth from whatever gear it rides on in the case
