How can I find the owner of my old truck?

Hello and happy Friday everyone! As the title suggests, I'm looking for my old Ranger. The first vehicle I bought on my own was a 1994 Ranger. No extras, 2.3 with the 5 speed manual. I loved that truck and to this day I'm still not sure why I got rid of it. I thought it was a pipe dream to ever get it back because as of yesterday morning I didn't even have the vin#. I called my old insurance company and they were able to send me my original application that had the vin# on it. Now I know that the truck is in AZ. Only problem is that I don't know how to find out WHO the owner is.

Has anyone else been down this road? Any pointers are greatly appreciated!

You may be able to contact the DMV and see if they have it on record, but I do not know if they will release that information to you. Privacy laws can make it hard to track down stuff like this.

if it wasn't very long ago, you will have better results, but you might try to do a car fax report if you have the VIN. if you do a car fax, you may at least get a hit on whether or not it is in the junkyard or on the road./ date last registered. If you have records of who you sold it to, (assuming you don't since you are asking here...but if you do..) you can call that guy and see if he has it.

otherwise,if you know where it is or see it around, stalk him the next time you see it and hit him up for conversation.

Yeah this is the problem. I have a carfax report that shows it's registered in Phoenix but there's no owner info and going to AZ dept of motor vehicles website, I can't lookup anything since I'm not the owner. Privacy laws may make this impossible.

I bought it new in 94 and sold it in 98. Been a long time unfortunately and privacy laws are working (as intended) against me. Oh well.

you need a friend who is a police officer or works at the dmv.

Private investigators are not cheap but.... if you care that much about it. You can try that

This would probably be easy work for them. Honestly, probably not much more than a few phone calls that they could do in their downtime. You may have to pay a couple hundred, but its not the end of the world, especially if they find it for you.

Also since it is well over 20 years old, if you do locate it it might be either scrapped or in pretty rough shape...

At least if carfax says it is registered it probably isn't scrapped.
