How big of lift do I need to clear 31's?

86 ranger, single cab. Want a suspension lift when I can afford it and 31's, just don't know how big I have to go.
 
stock will work but they will rub some. 4" suspension lift would be ok, but also a 2" leveling kit and some 2" belltech rear shackles would be nice too. or just a body lift
 
im not a fan of that chart at all

me neither, i'm clearing 31's on my stock b2 suspension. i plan on running 33's and a 4" lift when i get the money for them

yeah. and im running 33s on just 3" lift now on my b2 and i only get minimal rub on the fenders while turning, and that chart says you need 2" susp, 3" body, and fender trimming. or just a 6" lift
 
The chart is based on no rubbing what-so-ever.

You guys having minimal rubbing means you have less lift than what the chart says......you can get away with more tire size or less lift if you don't mind rubbing a bit.
 
not to start an argument but based on personal experience, lets take this for example. the chart says to run a 31" tire you need 3" body lift and 2" suspension lift, when on my last B2 i had a set of 31s on her with stock suspension (heavy duty coil springs due to previous owner having a snow plow on it, but still stock height) and had no rubbing whatsoever

but a thing to keep in mind is hardly any tires are the height that they are called, for example a 33" is probably a 32 or so, and a 31 is probably a 30 or similar. and offset of rims, size of engine(weight) and alot of other things. this is just my 2 cents
 
Well to point out the flaws, yes the chart does not consider variability of tire height, or variability within the different cab/motor configurations available. Nor does it take into account the variability for wheels with different backspacing allowing or causing tire rubbing. And we all know tires can bulge out or stand up straighter with different wheels.

Its there for a reason and whoever put the chart together obviously did alot of cross referencing to make it into what it is today. Might as well utilize it. I believe its based off one of the threads I linked to. Every truck is different and its hard to capture that with one master chart. It does a pretty darn good job IMHO otherwise.

The search function will further confirm or deny for the OP what size lift he needs to run to fit 31's. He should try leveling coils and beltechs to get started....then a body lift later if its not enough. Or if he has the cash in the first place, a 3" or 4" lift will be perfect.
 
exactly, only real way to figure out is to go ahead and do it due to the huge variabilities. but agree the chart is a good base to start from
 
sawzall is always a good option...
and ditch the front sway bar...

then some coil spacers (washers or actual spacers) and some lift blocks or shackles in the rear.. done, for cheap.

RC says i'll fit 33's on my b2 w/ their 4 inch lift. it might, only b/c those stupid springs don't flex enough for it to rub.
 
buy the tires. test fit them and see how much you need. if you plan on offroading a 4" lift will do you good. if its street then leveling coils should do it
