Hosers OVER-torqued my Oil Drain Plug!--> CROSS-threaded by MoFos!

I'm a tool snob. Makit or Milwaukee only. Maybe Dewalt. Pretty soon it will be hilti and metabo and fein. Maybe even snap on. I try to buy the stuff they don't sell at home depot, because to me it is no different than Wal mart.

After owning my first home, and many faucets, I asked a well off contractor friend where to get good fixtures. He said everything at home depot is junk. Same with Lowes or any other big box store. If I want actual quality not mass produced crap, got to specialty store like Ferguson. Same with the tools.

He said all the Milwaukee stuff at home depot is crap. Real stuff is at stores like Arrow tools. Makes sense...
Every Milwaukee battery from home depot has been bunk (especially the 6.0/9.0 18v)
The batteries I've purchased anywhere else, including fleabay, have worked fine.

Eff home depot and their making tools useless. If I was gonna get ryobi I would just go buy a throwaway China brand from Hf

You should take a minute and tell us how you really feel...

I road tested the WMart and Home Depo impact wrenches while trying to break the exaust bolts loose first time in 10 or 12 years. First got a Wmart and it wasn't doing it, then got an equally sized and priced Home Depot, it wouldn't do it. Wound up using my legs on a 4 ft cheater pipe to finally bust it loose

Cleaning up the mess I decided to return the least used Impact, which was the Wmart, even though I actually thought it was better. The Home Depot had simply been attached to the air line when the work began progressing.

I even told the gal at Walmart I liked theirs best but since it had only tried once at the perimary object and the HD had been used for the remainder I felt obliged to keep it instead.

What model impact is it? Is it the basic model or is it a +HP gun? If it isn't a ONE+HP gun I wouldn't expect too much out of it for automotive stuff.

I blew mine up trying to remove fender bolts on my squarebody.. it didn't have enough mustard to break them free by itself consistently either. A bunch of them needed a ratchet to break free and then be finished with the gun.

I havnt used a +HP model, but looking at their numbers they should perform a lot better. I plan on getting one eventually.

Ryobi FINALLY has a 18v 1/2" impact now too.. real interested in that.
Just a 18v 1+ I think, got it 3 or 4 years ago, but recently was the first time I much used the impact

I’ve been told that many brands will make a cheaper version of their products to be sold at big box stores. Even if they simply don’t do any QC before it ships it cuts the cost down, let the box store deal with it if it’s an issue.

Even stuff like air compressors. You can buy the same exact IR compressor from a dealer or the tractor supply. The one you buy from the dealer will run for years with full load with basic maintenance. The one from TSC will need parts after a year or so.

I believe the name of the YouTube channel is AVE.. mabey aVe? I don't remember..

Either way.. the guy disassembles brand new crap like power tools for dissection/inspection/see what the full story is.. and Milwaukee really isn't all its cracked up to be from the videos I've seen. Its been awhile since I've watched his channel but I do remember that they use the same exact battery cells lol.

My personal experience has been less than stellar with Milwaukee stuff too.

We had a job a few years back where we were Installing close to 200' of gutter on a concrete building that had concrete fascia. We needed to pre-drill all the holes for the hanger screws to hang the gutter, 16" on center. We had 2 beat up (basic, non HP) ryobi hammer drills and a freshly unboxed Milwaukee hammer drill....

The ryobis held tough and finished the job after the superior Milwaukee had blown up less than halfway through 🙂 they didn't provide me with a good first impression.

Ryobi did though.. when I dropped one of their guns down 4 stories of staging. Damn thing bounced off literally every bit of staging it could on the way down.. wailed off the half frozen earth and flew into a concrete retaining wall.. vomiting out the battery. Still worked fine, continued to use that gun for another year or two.

Besides my Milwaukee heated jacket (which I'm rather 'meh' about)... I'll be ryobi til I die. I see no reason to buy the gucci boots when sketchers do just fine.

The newer green stuff seems ok. Older blue ones were worthless.

Milwaukee, Ryobi, and I think rigid are all make by the same company. I would expect the chassis to be fairly similar. I feel like the Milwaukee stuff has a little more thought out into the designs, the Ryobi stuff always feels clunky.

I have used all three brands a lot, and I prefer the Milwaukee just for variety of options you have with the tools.

since i don't do construction anymore, i just get a cheap harbor freight and use it till it dies (usually 4-5 years) and then get another.

You're right, Synthetic BLEND is what I meant to say... if it was FULL synthetic I'd just change the filter and roll on...

Are there no design features in the PCV loop to reduce/eliminate that? And since oil and water don't mix, does it really matter if the oil is new or old, clean or dirty?

Trips during Covid, though only 1 or 2 per week, were long enough to boil off all moisture in both the crankcase and the exhaust system. 2200 of the 4200 miles currently on this oil happened in the past 3 months, ALL highway, 2600 RPM in 5th gear... that's easy living for an engine, and the oil still has some clarity, but 4,000 miles is my usual interval, and FFS, 3 years just kind of "bothers" me... FoMoCo Engineers say 7,500 miles is fine, and I'm sure many Vulcans live to 250k+ miles on that "book" interval.

True, BUT... let's not get CRAZY, and change the oil every 200 miles or 10 days, whichever comes first!:cool:
In order: oil and water don't mix until the engine is running and stirring it up, otherwise it sits on the bottom and rusts the pan which in turn contaminates the oil. There's no substitute for changing the oil and driving long enough to reach full temp, a car driven frequent short trips needs more frequent oil changes.
Ford did say up to 7500 miles OR 6 MONTHS was OK. See comment above.
Modern oil doesn't need to be changed because it broke down, it needs to be changed because it gets polluted with moisture and combustion byproducts. And while synthetic can hold more dirt in suspension, it still needs to be changed. Or not, I have friends who sell engines.

So, to summarize; what you're saying is "
Modern oil doesn't need to be changed
". Right?

😜🤪👌

A bunch of the green stuff is crap too TBH, the basic homeowner grade line of tools. At least in any sort of heavier duty type usage.. they'll work.. but theyre not optimal. Absolute definition of homeowner grade.

The +HP line of tools is great though for the price. Some sort of big-wig that used to work at Milwaukee ended up leaving and going to work for ryobi.. it was about that time that they really went full force into expanding the +HP line, probably not a coincidence.

I will give Milwaukee the win for overall size of tools and ergonomics to an extent.. I'm not trying to say that they make crap tools it's just that I don't personally see the increased cost actually being worth it, for the most part. I'm absolutely sure that for certain tools.. the red tool would be best.. but that goes for the other brands as well. Mikita might win a few, Dewalt would win a few, the harbor freight tools would probably win a few even..

The price difference in batteries kills me though lol. Especially when the heart & souls of the batteries are the same part made by the same company.

You guys are going to laugh, but the grocery chain Lidl (like Aldi, but bigger) sells different power tools occasionally under the store brand name Parkside. These are made in China (of course), but the ones I've bought have actually been well built for the price and have held up so far for me for my limited use. Even the hand tools have been decent.

Lidl is a German–owned chain that is primarily on the East Coast so far.

SOOOOooo... you're saying my oil drain plug wasn't over-torqued, but instead has rusted itself to the pan from the INside, due to an inch of condensed humidity, aka water in the bottom of the oil pan?... durn... guess I'll find out while everyone's glued to Duh Superbowl... and then Monday I'll have to call Acme Crate Engines...

... also, I'm a bad person!... or a Bad Ranger Owner...
