Tried the forum search, no joy. What are your opinions? Keep it or trash it? Nothings wrong with it but got my engine bay all nice and shinny and there sits a dirty insulator. I would like ta put some decals or such up there.

I've heard the pros & cons (hood blisters from heat, yada yada).

Any opinions??? :icon_confused:

umm. maybe tac weld a thin metal sheet on top? or get some spray paints and paint it, then put a decal on top of that if at all possible?

I would leave. If Ford installed one, there must be reason behind it.

i took mine off in my truck but the only reason I took it off was because it was half hanging off... I havent had any problems with it yet...

I would leave it, but maybe spraypaint it like mentioned. A satin/matte black would look alright I think.

Spray-painted mine flat black when I cleaned up the engine bay on the B2. Made it look like a new one. You can buy new replacement plastic fasteners, too.

Mine's out too, with no issues. Doesn't effect my paint or my fiberglass cowl that's molded to my hood.

Maybe you could find one from a mustang with the big Ford oval in it, and trim it to fit. I dunno the measurements, just an idea.

Anybody know the original purpose of the hood insulation?

My understanding is that they are meant to act a a fire blanket. When the plastic clips melt the piece is supposed to fall down around the engine and snuff the fire. That said, I always rip mine out. I've never had any problems with the paint.

Keep it, it is a fire blanket. If your engine ever burns that could save the rest of truck and maybe your life.

IMO, taking out a safety item for cosmetics is plain d.u.m.b.

it would probably look pretty cool with a big motorcraft decal or something there instead of a dirty black thing
