I just took off the canopy that's been on the ranger for it's lifetime (1988). There are holes in each corner of the bed on the sides that I didn't see before cause the canopy was sitting on them..I can tell there suppose to be there, but why? Should I worry about stuff getting stuck in them or finding a way to cover them up?

Thanks

They are useful if you use your truck for work. They can be tie down points, used for custom ladder rack inserts - wood or metal. I think the original design was for bed height extenders made of wood for farm use.

Oooh okay cool, so would people just stick the bed hight extenders in there? Or is there a way to secure it?

Add some tie down anchors...

Called stake pockets. Should be able to fit a 2x2 or 2x3 in there.

some have a hole from the inside of the bed where you could use a fastener to hold on your stake sides.

I noticed a long time ago that chevy S-10’s dont have stake pockets. Im not certain about the dodge dakota. Id probably break a S10 in half if I used it the way I do my ranger.

There are not on all F-150s either. My buddy has a 2000s lariat with no stake pockets. 5.5’ bed, maybe related to bed length.

The new Ranger, at least the 2019 year model, doesn't have the stake pockets either.

i think they are going to be a lost truck artifact soon. city people don't need stake pockets
