My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Has anyone tried that high temp anti seize? It says its good for up to 1800*.

Reason im asking is i got an old gravely promaster 18h id like to get going. I found a guy to drill the current exhaust studs out that are snapped off (they go into the block...im not risking it myself)...and when i buy new studs if i coated them in the high temp stuff maybe i could avoid this in the future if i need to take the manifold off.

Input?

I have it used for the header bolts onto aluminum heads. had to remove the headers 3
years later, no problem. reinstalled the header bolts with the hi-temp anti seize .

Perfect

If you mean the copper based stuff, it's all I use.

A Ford engined street rod with an acual Mustang II suspension, not an aftermarket kit. That's a double attaboy for you.

I use Permatex anti-sieze:

An absolute must for spark plug threads in aluminum heads. I should know - the hard way.

This goop is also great for any bolts/nuts exposed to the elements. This stuff will not wash away allowing rust.

as a bonus you can turn your hands and anything you are near silver or copper colored depending on if you use the aluminum or copper based versions!

Careful with the stuff, it's like glitter, it gets everywhere...

Yeah i was reffering to the copper stuff.

Ive used the aluminum kind but i feel like it would get cooked off...the copper stuff says its good to 1800* i cant see a mower header getting anywhere near that

I have a big jar of the Nickel based anti seize. They claim it's good for 2500*F.

It was my go to at work, we would coat hardware that would regularly be heated to 300* to 400*F and be kept there for years. All the moisture burns off and it turns to powder, but it helps keep the stainless from seizing and galling up the threads.

I ended up just buying a big jar of it for home since it works so well.

If you coat the threads up good blue lock tight will prevent the bolt from seizing too. Not sure how well it will hold up with the temps though.

Copaslip, which is made by MolySlip, is my favorite antiseize, but finding it in stores is difficult. You can mail-order it.

In my life I've seldom used blue threadlocker and only once or twice the red version. You are far more likely to have fasteners get stuck from rust, etc., than to have them vibrate loose. Antiseize is your friend.

I don't use thread locker that I am aware of. I use the red permatex for gaskets sometimes. The anti-seize I've used since the 70s oilfield days and learned a lot more about corrosives offshore. One well I worked on they sent us all a top of the line slicker suit, hat, and boots due to the highly corrosive fluids we were using to flush the well, and bring it in to production
