Hi, I own a 1986 ford ranger xl with the 2.9l and a 5 speed manual. I've also owned a 1999 ford ranger as well, that having the 4.0 and a 5 speed manual. I joined to ask you fellow mechanics a question on my 86 ranger. it has no spark, there's power to the coil it's a new coil new plugs new wires new distributor new tfi module. but the ground isn't collapsing letting the coil generate spark. But today I looked at the pcm on the passenger side and it said 1990 ford ranger 2.9 auto. So my question is would the newer pcm that was meant to support an auto trans have the same pinnouts as the older manual pcm. could that be what is cause my no spark. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

Welcome to the forum!

Has it ever run while you've had it or is this a new purchase?

Auto and manual transmission ECMs are more or less interchangeable in the 80s, they're just tuned differently and there are minor wiring changes for the neutral safety switch or clutch/neutral switches but wired correctly the auto ECM will work fine.

This is a new purchase, the only work I've done so far is the tfi module, the rest was done by the previous owner
