Ive seen/looked at photos of the gas tank but I cant tell how Id install the unit on the tank.
The gauge on the dash is dead. Its never worked since I got the truck. This keeps me from taking my truck outside the city limits which I hate. I want a working gas gauge.

When I first got my '84 the gas gauge didn't work. Turned out the wiring harness connector and sending unit terminals were corroded- badly. If memory serves (less and less these days) the tank's sending unit is below the cab / bed opening, and collects water. My sending unit and the gauge both tested good, just had bad wiring connections. You may want to look at your connector before buying parts; on mine I was able to fix the bad connections.

Im curious on if my wiring and sending unit is original. Mainly because its a brand-new tank. The previous owners put a new tank in my truck before I bought it.

What I was thinking (Mainly because I cant find a replacement OEM sending unit) is getting a universal gauge and sending unit.

Whenever Ive got free time and my gas tank is closer to empty. Ill drop the tank and see about cleaning and rebuilding the wiring.
