ok so heres the scenario. i want to do a body lift on my 86 ranger supercab 4x4. my moms bf whos garage im using one day decided to cut 2x4 steel square stock and i think its like 1/8th or 1/16th inch wall. not sure.

anyway. he wants to put it up and down (4 inch lift) and cut the steering and such to extend it.

i dont like the idea of Jerry rigging this stuff for the fact of possible problems or someone getting hurt

would that steel stock work or would it be a bad idea?

thanks in advance!

thats what im thinkin man. only way i see it working is turn it on its side as a 2..well 1 7/8" or w/e lift lol.

Trust me, just buy a kit, although personally I would never body lift any vehicle I own

James duff has 2" kits for like $110 and ebay has kits (2" or 3") for like $125 or less sometimes. I wouldn't trust hacking it or jerry rigging like you say either. I would just buy a kit, too dangerous as benny said. Plus you need to extend the steering shaft, just sounds scary really.

yeah he keeps pushing the subject and i hate to argue with my mothers bf but i dont wanna die from a dumb decision either.

my problem is i have some new tires and they were fine untill i installed the dana 35 and 8.8

they sit wider than they did and now im rubbing the fenders. so i have to do something fast to get it back on the road.

do the 2 or 3 inch body lift. should come with steering and shifter extensions (with the 3 inch kit) that are designed for your truck. safer for sure. and as has been said, not expensive. should be able to get one for around $100. my 2 inch kit didn't need extensions. good luck with your mom's bf.

Yeah I think I'm gonna go ahead and just look them up and order one. If he wants to say something I'll just tell him to put them on his truck if he trusts it so much lol.

Thanks everyone
