Hello all,

Recently my truck has been dying as soon as I start it, but then it runs fine when I start it again. What would cause this, my dad seems to think it the air/idle motor, but before I go out and buy one I rather make sure I need one. Not sure if it is throwing any codes though, and from a few other post I have read, it looks like this is common but can be many things. It has new plugs and wires, new coils, new MAF, new O2 sensor, new EGR, new PCV valve and others.

Thanks for any help!

Turn key to run for 2 secs, listen to fuel pump run.
Key back to Off.
Repeat 3x, then crank the strarter.

If that works, keep doing it and plan to replace the fuel pump. Might replace the fuel filter, sometimes they seep and let the fuel pressure bleed off.

You can clean the IAC and see if that helps. You can disconnect its electrical connector with the AC on and see if it changes the idle. No idle change when disconnecting means bad IAC.

how long is the stock fuel filter usually good for? I have 104k on the stocker mostly new gas some fill ups were from older gas, and I know alot can change the life of the filter. so what's a good ballpark?

You're about 3 fuel filters late on replacing that item.

Hmmmm...my Zuki has about 160,000...it's a PITA to change the filter on that...they stuck it riight up beside the gas tanks and it has a special fitting that I'm not sure about...I have the new one sitting in a box but haven't tried changing it...

The dealership manager said they will never clog...they are desiged to bypass the filter if it gets full...so I'm hoping to get it done soon before something else plugs up...

oh, wow well this is good to know. Could this be a very likely cause for the dying on the first startup after sitting for a few hours?

They're cheap and easy to replace, so replace it and see what happens :)

Not diggin' the Sponge Bob.....

////grumbles about every time the grandkids show up and take over ALL the TVs with that and Dora, damned Nickelodeon////

Try a new fuel filter and if it doesn't improve, but the Key3X thing works, you'll need a new fuel pump. Its checkvalve isn't holding pressure. It could also be an injector stuck open or a bad fuel pressure regulator. Try the cheap stuff first, like that overdue filter.

Relay

I had the same problem right after i replaced my fuel pumpand filter, so i replaced the fuel pump relay and it solved the problem, or if you have a leaky injector that gets stuck open then it will bleed off pressure and do the same thing.

Well Replaced the filter yesterday, and tried the key3x thing, worked this morning, but no this afternoon... My dad picked up a fuel pressure checking kit, so i can hook onto the fuel rail and check out the pressure and see if it holds, if not i guess the fun begins
