I went out to change the front passenger side wheel bearings, everything came off just fine but the outer bearing was completely shot.. all that was left was the race. Pretty sure it is supposed to just pull off, but it wont budge. Tried beating it with a hammer, any ideas of where to go from here?!
Thanks in advance, Jerrot

so whats happened is that with the bearing going bad, it created enough heat to make the race stick (weld) itself to the spindle. Just had his happen to my utility trailer. I used a 4" angle grinder and cut a couple grooves in the race, then used a cold chisel to smack the grooves, then the race just slid off. All this while being careful not to hit the spindle. If you do nick the spindle use a flat file to correct the problem. Or go to a rental yard and pick up a bearing puller. should be less than 20.00 a day.

Thanks for the reply, thats what i figured had happened ill see about renting an anhle grinder tomorrow and have a hack at it!
Cheers!

Bigger hammer.

Or the grinder thing. That works well too.

On my Explorer I took a torch and applied heat to the race and it slid right off with a tap of the hammer.

lots of ways.

i've used a cutting wheel on a dremel to get them off of pinions before. the dremel will cut through it and they're easier to control than an angle grinder.

a good puller would work too, it helps to have an impact gun with them though.
