I think it has something to do with the anti lock brakes. it was mounted on the front left frame rail of a 94 explorer

Looks like a lateral accelerometer. 3 pin plug, lives just about right below the driver's seat on the frame? Check resistances between the middle pin and the outter pins as you tip it forward and backward.

Basically it tells the ABS module if the vehicle is moving or not. That way if you lock up all 4 wheels and are still skidding the module knows you are still moving and can release the brakes and try again.
 
Thanks guys!!! helped a lot. I finally found it in my evtms. Now Im trying to figure out how to get the 90 ranger RABS to work with the 94 4wABS. Ive used the entire dash and wiring from the 94 ex in the 90 ranger and this is my only major snag. Ive found that half tank of 10 yr old gas does wonders on the fuel pump and sender. Can you say smelly and sticky. So Im after a new assembly there.
