I put a replacement engine in my Ranger today and that job went okay. When I removed the old engine, I did not have the tool to remove the cooling fan and since the engine was junk, I just pulled the water pump. Now, even with the tool I can't get the fan off--and I checked the shroud--it says right hand threads--which should mean counter clockwise to loosen, but it won't budge.

On the replacement motor, I'm not certain which way the threads go, but I've tried it both ways and can't get it off. I just need one of these suckers off so I can use the pulley again that drives the water pump. I'm putting and electric fan in to replace the viscous version.

Anybody got any wizardry to get these things off?

Okay, I found a way to do it. since I was removing the water pump anyway, I put it in a vise, jammed a flat pry bar in the back side of the pulley until it could not move and put a breaker bar on the rental tool. Both the 1991 and the 1994 were right hand threads---counterclockwise to loosen. They both succumbed to this method.
