Help, 88 Ranger 2.3 Fuel pressure test comes up zero

I bought an expensive fuel gague with the shrader connector for my truck, I installed it correctly yet, when I do the key on engine off test I get no movement of the needle at all. yet i am getting fuel to the rail, I know because when I remover the gague from the valve a small amout of gas leaks from the connection., I can also hear the pump engague for 2 seconds as it's susposed to. could this be a weak pump? or could it be the return fuel pressure regulator? Take the core from the rail and put a hose over it and run it in a soda bottle to see.When you remove the gauge,it should have quite a spurt of gas out of it.After cranking it over and pushing the core down ,you should have a big spurt.Sounds like the pump.BE CAREFUL!

or an somewhat easier way also would be to disconnect your fuel filter line before the filter and put that in a bottle then turn the ignition and see how fast it pumps, then hook it up to the filter and see if it slowed down any then go to the rail,
in my opinion that could somewhat diagnoise where it might be clogged possibly

or he could just replace a $5 filter

but either way, a clogged filter wil lnot cause a 0 PSI condition. im going to bet on a bad regulator. pull the vacuum line off the regulator...is it wet? do a vacuum test on it and see if it holds a vacuum.

wicked has a point, but if you have alot of fuel on the outlet side of the filter and none at the rail it would confirm a problem further along in the system, if there is no pressure down by the filter than it's obviously the pump. or something electrical on the way to the pump.
