I'm currently rebuilding my 351W to put in my 92 XLT 2wd the tech library has answered every question but one. The library says that exhaust
on the 351W is difficult but doesn't clearly say what headers or exhaust manifolds work best . Are they the same exact option as the 302?

I would recommend browsing build threads to see what others have done.
Another option is to try headers designed for a '65-'70 Mustang with a 351.
This is the application for Tri-Y headers many of us use. (from 289/302 cars, into a Ranger with a 302)

JBA and others offer such a beast.
Some of those swap headers may also fit fine, but I would dig a little first.

Well so far a
lot of this is guess work lol I'm hoping someone who has actually done this swap may be able to tell me what headers they used. So far I saw a recommendation on using headman headers pn.88400 and after looking at them on summits site they look right but that recommendation was for a 302 not a 351W

I don't think the 88400 headers would be a good choice... some people have to cut their frame just to use them on a 302, a 351W would be much worse. It's hard to say what headers "will" work because every swap is different... there are several different mounts to choose from and you decide where the engine goes. The 302 swap headers suck for putting a 302 in a Ranger, so a 351W is only worse.

You may have to buy a kit and make some, its going to be a tough gig either way.

These are the swap headers i bought for putting the 351w in my 90 ranger.
I got them from Total Performance out of Michigan. Unfortunately they don't offer them any more.

I am going to try and use them for my 84 ranger with a 302 this summer.

Really ? Who did that ? :dunno: No one that I recall did.:icon_confused:

If I didn't shim my engine up the PS would have been pretty tight to the frame. Dunno if it would have interfered or not though. :dntknw:

The 351W is "difficult" but not impossible to fit headers. There's no clear cut answer just for that reason. It's both wider and taller than a 302. Some 302 headers work on a 351W, some don't, just for that reason

I can only vouch for these 302 swap headers as this is whats on my 351 in 90 2wd ranger. I'm using the factory 4.0 engine mounts with the v8 plate adapter setup, so I don't know if they will work with different mount setups. The driver side header fits perfect and clears the steering shaft about a 1/4''. I know the passenger side will fit also, but you will have to notch the frame a little. It is nothing major. I'll try to add a pic of the driver side header, but don't have a passenger side pic as I have a flipped turbo header. any questions just ask.

I used the 88400's and had to notch the frame a little bit on the passenger side.
