I really don't think this is the right spot, but it might be for the answer I need.
Okay, I am going this weekend to checkout Cleghorn and sometime in the future I am thinking of taking out my girlfriend's ATV. I am just wondering, with my current setup(see sig, plus 30" tires), how will it handle 5th gear? It is a 73.9 miles from my door to the end of the off ramp. I want to put it in the back(I haven't got my hitch yet), but the ATV weights 495lbs, plus me and my girlfriend.

you shouldn't have a problem ..i've had close to that in mine with no problems and made a 300 mile round trip..

i have but close to a 1000 pounds in the bed and all my loging equiptment in mine and right now i have composite spring in the back and i have no problem

depends on how many hills are between you and your destination and what speed you plan on cruising at.

either way, it will make it just fine, even if you cant spend as much time in 5th as youd like. dont think your hurting the engine by driving in 4th (your actually more likely to hurt it by using high throttle settings in 5th, as this creates a lot of heat).

Okay, thanks. I just had to make sure that it was not going to hurt anything.

I had an 87 with a 4 inch lift and 36x12.50 tsls on it and decided to throw my 05 Z400 in the bed. It was kind of a slow trip (the ol' 2.9 wasnt running on all cylinders to begin with) Made my truck lean more in the turns, but since yours is stock, you shouldnt have too much trouble at all. Might not be able to keep it in 5th as wicked sludge says but u should be alright.

as long as your gf doesnt way 1500lbs, id say you'll be all good

i see no problem at all we have put a sportsman 800 in the back of my ranger and it handles fine its about a 1000 pounds with all the gear
