Has anyone used this intake?

I dont have either. but, half the people on another ford ranger site that have an aftermarket intake have the MAC performance intake. (the first one pictured). they seem to be happy with it.

I personally have a k&n CAI. Its really a waste of money if you ask me. try removing the silencer on your factory box if you want it louder. you wont notice a bit of power increase with either setup.

I have a '93 ranger 3.0L and when I upgraded to a '98+ ranger P&P upper and lower and BBK throttle body, I used the MAC cold air intake for a '98+ ranger 3.0L. It has suprisingly good quality and fit. It also comes with a decent sized heat shield to protect from hot air. I will give you a thumbs up.

Autozone sales the filters and the adapter so you can have the sensor hooked up.. The filter is $25 and the adapter is $12.. A lot cheaper IMO... I just took off the top piece and the old filter.. ill post a picture in a few..

I wouldn't spend $37 dollars to lose power... You'll only suck in warmer air. Might as well get a K&N drop in filter if your budget is that low.

Here is my setup and I have posted a picture of the adapter so it enables the air sensor to still be connected.. I tried hooking it up without and it ran horrible.. haha

I wouldn't waste your money man, the stock cold air intake works just fine. :icon_thumby:

You could argue the 4wheelparts product gets more cold air with the cone filter box as opposed to the macperformance which draws hot air from engine compartment. But as has been said, "you wont notice a bit of power increase with either setup"

Went from stock CAI to aftermarket WAI - reason?

At the time I wanted a more aggressive sound and more HP. So it would appear that its actually worse than the stock setup HP wise ?? I figure it could breath more freely but then again I don't know sh*t about cars so I could be wrong..

The filter element will flow more air than a stock filter, but without a heat shield your engine is inhaling hot air instead of cool dense air. That is why I suggested a high-flow replacement filter if you're on a budget. This way you can still draw in air from outside the truck rather than the hot air from your engine and radiator, and you have a higher flow air filter.

The filter element will flow more air than a stock filter,

True (I assume), but does the engine need more flow? Required flow is what is demanded by engine, putting on higher flow filter does not create more demand for flow.

No, I think its more of the fact that the engine can breathe "easier", not more volume. But, for a small (under $40) budget I would suggest a high-flow drop in filter rather than a cone.

the 3.0 uses the same filter element as the 4.0...which makes more power than the 3.0. the elements are also nearly the same area as the element used in the 200+ HP supercharge 3.8 thunderbirds. the stock filter element is not a restriction. the stock intake is not a restriction and its a true cold air intake with a preheater. no aftermarket or homemade intakes are going to increase your performance and some will decrease it.

then why does everybody use them if cai do nothing?i put a cone k&n on my truck and noticed a diff not a huge diff but better.
