Ok guys, i know this is ralated to the V8 forum, but i figured this one gets a lot more traffic, and i gotta figure out wtf is goin on asap. So, i order a long block for a 1988 mustang, nothing special. Get all my old acessorys mounted on, headers this and that. Go pick up some new plugs, again, for a 1988 mustang 5.0 H.0, get home, go to install them and WTF, that arnt long enough....... They fit in my old heads just fine, but they are too short to thread into the new ones, what gives? Does anyone have an idea WHY? What heads for a small block ford use longer plugs? Im lost guys, HELP. Also, i have a ton of pics taken during all if this stuff, and i will post them on cardomain as soon as possable. Im stuck with dial up so it will take some time.

I would check that you got the right heads with your engine and that the parts guy didn't screw up and give you the wrong plugs for your engine. I would guess it is the later.

um, they are the SAME plugs that went in my old engine, I bought the engine asa long block, meaning they built it. The plugs are motocraft and are the same # as the my old plugs. the heads have the same threads, but need to be like, 3/8'' longer or so...wtf

as i recall my brother 93 mustang had some long ass threads on his plugs, maybe close to an inch? what kinda lenth are you looking at ?

k, so i looked at that site, the plugs for a 1993 cobra seam to be the ones im looking for, whats the difference in heads?

Like i said, i ordered a 88' 302 H.O so what are thouse heads doin on there

you probably have the gt 40 heads...calm down though. they are better than the E7 heads that you wanted. you probably need a plug that has threads at the end , then a straight shank up to a tapered end right? if so you have gt 40's

oh, im calm , its just been one messed up project, my injectors TB and egr spacer were being held at the border for a few days, so im just a lill tense haha. Thouse are the plugs i need, Ive heard that GT 40 heads are better, whats the diff?

Could be e6?? they are odd heads too. Came on the crowns. These mass production rebuilders wil throw anything together and call it h.o. Hopefully it's the right cam.

my brothers mustang dosent have gt40 heads and his plugs have around an inch of thread on them.
86

What are the casting numbers on the heads?

The E6AE was that fast swirl head used in the Mustang only in '86 and then in the garden variety 150hp passenger cars up to '91 when the 4.6 replaced it.

The E7TE was the Mustang 5.0 head from '87-'96.

The Cobra or GT-40 head should have F3ZE or possinly F1ZE and should have GT cast into it somewhere.

There was also an F7TE Explorer V8 after 1997 that would have GTP and GT40P cast into it. It is the same I think, but has a smaller exhaust valve.
