Half way through the engine swap, hit a snap HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you guys think this is confusing....try doing a full resto and making it judge worthy..even the date code has to be within a certain month!

if you have 86 heads. throw them away. the chambers are heart shaped and bigger than e7's or gt 40,and are junk. they make NO power

The last two digits are the version numbers . in example , an "A" would be the first design , and a "AA" would be the second version of the same part design , a "B" would be the second design change , an I am not sure there is any more than an "A" or "B" designation .

lol, so you are telling me that they put garbage heads on it and called sold it as somthing it isnt? What other kinda heads could they be? They dont have the 3 lines on them, and im not about to pull the intake manafold off to see what they are, i just got it runing.

well if its already running drive the shit out of it.

where did you buy this motor from?

I got it through NAPA. I just got it runing tonight, sounds helthy, gonna road test it tomorow. My old heads were E7's. i got to rippin apart the old engine tonight, poor thing was in rough shape. SO, now that the new ones al togeather theres no way to tell what the heads are eh? so you guys are telling me they are either GT 40 or the E6? And if they dont have the lines on the front of the heads then they are the E6?

No, the E7s have no bars so they could easily be the HO heads as they said.

Even if it's the E6, which it may not be, it's still a 200hp 285ft# motor. The problem with them is that they pinched the chamber in around the valve to promote some serious turbulence which was supposed to let you run a leaner mixture by stirring the mixute together better. They work fine for 200hp but they can't be made to flow more air.

Honestly, I would go with aftermarket heads if I had those E6 heads. But you likely have the E7 heads anyway.

my old heads were E7's, and the plugs from them were too short for the heads on the new engine. I had to get plugs for a Cobra.

they are NOT E7's. at this point im going with 86 heads. they have no lines. and they also use that ASF42C motorcraft plug. as do the gt 40's. just pull a valve cover and read the casting. its that simple

Ah, the plug length--yeah, I forgot about that.

He can't read the casting without pulling the intake manifold.

ya, the whole reason i was having issues finding the damn part number was because certin people were saying "pull the valve cover". Its the intake that needs to come off. SO, if it used the longer plugs, but does not have the lines on the front of the head, they are E6 heads? thats the bottom line?

E7TE is correct for an '87 to '95 HO.

E8SE isn't going to be an original head on an '86--the "E" means 1980's decade and the "8" means 1988. To keep going here, the third letter is what type of vehicle it was intended for. The "T" in the E7TE is "truck" as those heads were used on all the 5.0 and 5.8 truck motors as well. An "A" is for full-size cars like Crown Vics. The "S" you stated would have been used on a Thunderbird. The "E" is for engine as it's an engine part. I'm not aware of any heads cast just for a Thunderbird, I would have expected the E6AE head or the E7TE.

So are the E8SE heads any good? Im not really surprised if they are not the origonal heads for the engine. I tried to do a google search on them but all i found was people on forums doing exactly what we are now, discussing the crappyness of the E6AE and the greatness of the E7TE. WHAT ABOUT THE E8SE!!! haha

I believe that the E8SE heads have an AA a little ways down the head from the number.
