Half way through the engine swap, hit a snap HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so, is there a way to tell if they are E8SE heads by lookin at them? or would i need to yank the intake to see for sure? Like i said, they use the longer plug, but after taking it for a rip to seat everything in, its got a lot of snot, like, i havent even been workin it hard. Are there any other ways to tell what heads they are without pullin the intake? also, like i said, my old heads are E7's so worst case senario i can get them rebuilt and toss them on, but i would like to know for sure befor i go voiding a 2 year unlimited milage warrenty.

Id be calling them up and trying to find something out... they built the engine and sold it as an HO... whos to say that it is in fact an HO at all?
You dont know if its got the HO cam in it, and you dont know if its got the HO heads on it. For all you know you paid for an HO and got a crown vic engine?

Im curious whats going on with these E8SE heads that ive got... sorry for jacking your thread by the way.... but you were asking the same kind of question. I cant get any information on these things, google keeps spitting out information on V6 block castings:S.

i dont think ive heard of an E8 head. definately not from a stang. must be a c vic or t bird head or something

also , my gt40's have a 'GT' cast into the head directly beneath number 1 spark plug. you should be able to see that with ease but i doubt its there from what youve said

and just pull the intake. it wont take long, and it will ease your mind cause you're just gonna be thinkin about it until you find out anyway

haha... you know theres an edit button if you want to add to a previous post... instead of 3 replys :P

There aren't any E8 heads for the 302. My guess is they're E6 with a poorly cast 6.

If the engine has an HO cam in it, it will have the same firing order as a 351 (13726548) as opposed to the normal 302 firing order (15426378).

actually i agree with that. ive never heard of a damn e8 ever. 87 on is E7, unless you have an explorer head or something, then its gt 40

Yea thats what i thought... but that doesn't make sence either... if its a poorly cast 6 then its also an A that looks like an S(E6AE vs. E8SE). I will try to get a good camera and take a picture of it if i can.

If theres an E6SE I can grudgingly accept that its cast poorly.

If it is a set of E6SE heads, can I put on the E7TE without any valve clearance problems with the flat top pistons that were origonaly in the 86 motor? Cause theres no way in hell im going to put different pistons in this engine now, because the HO pistons have different rings than the pistons ive got apparently. And i just bought this rebuild kit, and so far if I swap the heads over to the E7TE, I would need a new pair of head gaskets, and valve seals. Unless anyone can recomend otherwise.

How much more performance am I going to see between the E6 and the E7 realistically? If its not super significant then im not really concerned. The first upgrades im going to do to the engine down the road will probably be aftermarket heads and intake. Thats far down the road. Right now i just want to put this beast back together and drive it.
I really miss my truck!!!

I can't find anything about an E8SE either. It doesn't mean it can't exist though. There are other heads I didn't mention and I by no means qualify as any kind of expert. Also, service parts are sometimes re-engineered and may have different part numbers on them that were never on production engines. It's very likely the E8SE was a service part for the E6 head.

As a matter of fact, the "S" probably means "service".

ok, so im not puling the intake at the moment, but i AM goin to napa to talk to them about it, see what they have to say. Its runing the HO firing order, and right now, it out runs my friends 87' Tbird with a non-ho engine in it, and my truck weighs a LOT more then the car. Some times not knowing brings peace of mind. I also found some info stating that the E6's are usable heads, but should be upgraded when you want gobs more power. Im not onto a new mystery, every time i try to do a KOER diagnostic test, the scanner shows that its comunicating with everything, but nothing comes up, not even a pass code, or a limp home code, anyone have any ideas? it picked up codes for the KOEO test...

if the motor had flat top pistons, you definately have E6 heads. you can put E7's on it but you better check clearance. im pretty sure you much over a stock cam and youll have problems

you guys are making me think i just got hoses lol. we wil soon find out. I juss need to know for sure befor i go in to talk to them. If the heads use the longer plugs, but dont have the three lines on the front, then they are E6's?

most cases yes. but do yourself a favor and find the numbers before you go bitching

Well i guess im going to find out. I start at Ford tomorrow and I will ask about an E8SE head on a 302.
