Hagan's '86 Ranger build!

I figured out my speedo thanks to Rowdy. I'm using a 78 Bronco speedo cable. It's I believe 95" long. Its about 6" too long but it will work fine.

Also got my shifters sorted out. Still need to build a transmission tunnel and get boots for my shifters.

I'm going to weld on round stock and put shifter balls on it this is temporary.

i usually use the speedo cables from full size vans. i am liking the t case shifters:icon_thumby:

Are you ditching the Strongbox?

I wish I would have went with a 203/205 doubler.

Yeah it's an idea I've been tossing around. I'm not happy with a 3 speed transmission and it would be pretty much impossible to swap to any transmission worthwhile with an OD gear and keep the strongbox and 300. Not much is compatible

Shifters are looking good!

yeah...thats an expensive issue. there is a .940 29 spline that can be re-broached to 31....but the cost is astronomical. and its marginal due to material loss for full spline engagement....if there was a 27 spl .940 shaft it would be of max strength.

:dunno:

Just drove my Ranger for the first time. Drives pretty good! It still needs some work. The engine is ticking now. Not sure if it's loose headers, rockers need adjusted, or low on oil? Also the trans is making some noise. Not sure if that is because I don't have shifter boots and it's loud or I'm just worried about it for no reason. I need to figure out my clutch too. My clutchengages at the bottom of the pedal and sometimes it's hard to get into gear.

But, it runs and drives! Surprisingly a lot less vibration than I had before the swap. Even with the "bad" u joint angle.

Nice, how fast did you get it up to? For the clutch I would think only the ranger MC isn't big enough or air in the line. Also let me know if you experience toe strong box popping out of gear. Mine seems to pop out of high range on long downhill grades

My speedo hit my odometer reset button so I'd say I went around 75mph? My speedo is off around 15 mph at 60 I believe. In town I was doing 40 mph on the speedo and I was actually doing 30mph. So it's way off.

So far no issues other than the gear oil spewing out. I need to run a catch can like you said. I need to find that link you sent me!

I have no shift boots but the zf makes a lot of noise. The ticking noise of my 302 was just low on oil. About 2 quarts low.

Here is a pic of my tunnel

Built a catch can for my doubler. Seems to work good. Doesn't leak at all now.

Got it up to 75mph and it's smooth but loud

Lookin good! love the catch can idea :icon_thumby:

Nice same exact as my catch can, I put a small air filter on a barb on the top though

Thanks guys! I am planning on putting an air filter on top just haven't found one.

The main issue I'm having with my truck that really bothers me is some cutting out in 3rd gear. It feels like the truck should pull harder than it does (my fullsize Bronco pulls harder). I need to clean up my spark plugs wires and see if that helps.
