Gun Control statement

Actually, he has the EPA trying to get lead ammo banned. That would drive up the cost of ammo and put a lot of people out of the shooting sports all together.

And make the remaining ammo have much better penetration qualities. :icon_thumby:

its banned here in MS for waterfowl i think... which makes sense.. i don't use lead for duck hunting..

are a lot of your hunting bullets even lead tip any more? i know the cheaper ones are, but what about boat tail hollow points, a-max's, ballistic tips? do they have lead in them?
red= my favorite for my 30-06:thefinger:

Most "performance" ammo on the market such as the Nosler Ballistic Tips have a lead core and a bonded copper jacket with a poly tip.

Some of the heaviest and dense metals are lead (cheap and plentiful), copper (expensive but somewhat plentiful), gold (lol), and depleted Uranium. No wonder lead is used....

And don't get me started with all that lead paint poisoning crap... because it's scare tactics and idiots causing the problems.

Seriously man, how much penetration do you need?

I'd rather carve a nice large wound channel than punch a little round hole all the way through - like the 5.56/.223 ammo our military uses. Sure you can reach out and tag someone at 800 yards with it and the recoil is stupid light, but you have to hit a guy a half a dozen times before he realizes you're shooting at him because it does nothing more than punch little round holes.

IMHO, even a 7mm is typically overkill in the penetration department, even with old jacketed lead bullets. Unless you're trying to kill a grizzly before he eats you, it's overkill. I've seen a 7mm enter a 165 lb deer in the chest and exit out by the arse. Tore the hell out of everything in between too. Too much penetration if you ask me, just makes a mess at that point.

Penetration is not always better. Unless you're trying to punch a hole in a tank or bunker.

Solid deer slugs like to come apart in the deer, it can get really nasty and you are digging out lead chunks all over.

My brother shot one last year with some fancy Breneke slug last year. It looked like lead but went in the front of the chest and stopped under the skin at the base of the tail virtually unharmed... still had the wad on it. Mr Deer didn't go too far... but half the meat was ruined.

I use a varirty of ammo. I use soild copper bullets when hunting deer (Barnes TSX). I use soft point copper jacketed bullets and FMJ for practice. Use steel shot for waterfoul. Lead shot for pests and practice. Solid lead deer slug for the shotgun (would prefer to use an all copper round, but I would need a slug barrel for that).

As for CC firearms, the S&W Body Guard 380ACP & 38 work for me just fine. Thou I'm planning to add a S&W CC 9mm if & when they ever come out with one. And the S&W Governor will be added to my collection soon as my backpacking weapon. Which will be better suited to defend myself against snakes, wild pigs, and cougers.

We do have a few screwy gun laws in Michigan, like a ffl dealer can't sell anyone under 21 a handgun but at 18 you can buy a handgun from an individual after a background check. I have to agree with most everyone here, they can have my guns when the pry it out of my cold dead hands. I have let the local police and fire departments know that there are a lot of guns and ammo at my home as they may have to respond to a b&e or fire at my house someday and for their safety I felt they needed to know.

when our first b2 caught fire at my grandpa's house, they said it sounded like a war going on... we have just reloaded our 30-06's the night before and had about 600 rounds of 30-06, 100-200 of 9mm, and a box or 2 of .357's...
