guages fuel/temp peg intermitently

i have a 87 ranger STX has any one seen this! the temp and fuel gauge intermitintly just peg to max then go back to normal my thinking is a loose connection or bad IVR and the voltage to the gauges is going to full 12v making them peg out

could be a loose ground wire......turn the key to ON position so the guages start working...

reach under the dash & slowly move each wiring bundle around to see if the gauges act up.....

Definitely sounds electrical. Worst comes to worst, it would be the fuel pump and it's signal sender.
