Gt-12

pretty cool....i think the hood on that car is higher than the roof on mine:icon_hornsup:

I'd be willing to bet the tops of the tires are higher than your roof :icon_thumby:

Also, can this drive underneath your ranger?

Since so many guys think this thing should have cup-holders. There's obviously not enough room inside for cups of any variety and they would probably spill their contents anyway, however, perhaps a gimbaled cup-holder could be incorporated into the rear view mirrors.
Entertainment system ,if ever deemed necessary, could be obtained by velcroing an Ipod to the roll bar, outputting to a pair of earphones. Some form of hearing protection might not be a bad idea anyway.

You could mount the stereo in the ceiling like in the overhead console. I did my cb that way and was planning on building an amp rack into my roll cage roof to keep the amps dry

no room for speakers... or wiring for that matter..

anything hung from the rear view mirror would block half the windshield.of course,i guess the carbs already do that:icon_rofl:edit....i think i just realised you were referring to the outside mirrors.that could get messy.

it would just be something to bang you head on....remember,you need to lean into the middle just to sit in it.and there ain't no such thing as 'overhead'.

now you're getting the idea:icon_thumby:

i tossed together a quick welding jig from 1x1 tubing to assemble the tunnel sections.for what i feel should be obvious reasons, welding on the wood buck is not generally considered a good idea.the parts will be clamped to this frame to weld them together, and this will hold everything in line so it still fits after i'm done.

Lol, all my benches are plywood tops...never caught them on fire yet

actually, catching the wood on fire is the least of the worries in this case.with tig welding, the material gets heated up before the filler is introduced to complete the weld.if there's wood on the backside, when it heats up it outgasses hydrocarbons.....and that doesn't do the weld any good(actually,it makes a huge mess-ask me how i know:icon_twisted:)so while it's great in that it's quick and cheap to work with for bucks and forms, welding on it is not a good idea.mig welding steel on a wood form is not as bad,but still can cause problems.

so,got the pieces ready for welding....

some may be wondering why i didn't put the end section on this jig-it's the driveshaft access and will be a removeable panel seperate from the trans tunnel.

once everything is welded it will be ground and sanded like the wheel tubs to look like it was formed in one piece.then i'll cover it in upholstery so no one can ever see it:D

I like the idea of the removeable driveshaft cover. I would imagin it would be a pain to put that in all together any how. Looks great How are you doing the shifter?

shifter's going to be a simple affair....i want it to look like the stock shifter(i'll even use the stock knob)so it'll just be a stick with a boot....but instead of stirring the contents of a four speed,it'll just move back and forth in the typical auto pattern.there will be no indicator.

leaving it auto or shifting it manually?
