Gt-12

the top cage bar on the windshield can go higher.this is a good thing.

That's good, I'm going to need the extra headroom:icon_twisted:

I have a question, If you cant fit the body into the place you are building this car how is the car going to ever get out?

after everything is fitted up and found to work, the whole thing comes apart and gets moved to the shed, piece by piece.
the cage will stay together, but come off the frame.this is the biggest piece i can fit out the front door.it's 32'' high, the door is 33'' wide.so if i lay it on it's side it will fit.but the frame adds another 3'',for 35'' total.that won't fit.
then all the finish welding will take place, and everything gets painted.

then i put it all back together, and drive it out.

so,on a project like this there are some major milestones,as well as the minor ones.i'm getting real close to the first major one-rolling chassis.

those that remember the first page of this thread may recall that my goal for spring was rolling chassis, that should happen next week,so you could say i'm ahead of schedule.

so what's rolling chassis?

that's when the car can be pushed around the shop on it's own wheels and suspension.it must be steerable by it's own steering wheel, but brakes are not required.
major components such as the engine and trans must be bolted in.

the next stage after this is 'moveable under it's own power'.

this means,of course, that the engine must be able to run.exhaust need not be complete, but headers must be on the engine.cooling system need not be complete.
driveshaft must be in,and brakes must be functional.throttle pedal must be functional.fuel can be from a temporary container.
this is the last stage before it gets torn down and removed from the house.so i can drive it in the basement.

after this comes 'driveable'

this means that the chassis welding must be complete, fuel system permanent, seats mounted, cooling system complete,e-brake functional.
at this stage the body need not be on,but otherwise the car could be driven as far as wanted without mechanical issues.

last,'finished'.

bodywork and paint complete.interior finished.all electrical fully functional.

as would be expected,at this point there should not be anything left to do but enjoy the fruits of your labour.

i hope i get there soon.

How many people get to drive their car in their basement? I'm not sure why, but I'm jealous.

just getting that past the wife should be enough to get a cool point or two:headbang:

but then again, getting building the thing in the house past the wife has to be worth something, too.

won't be able to go too far, though.someone put a bunch of walls in the way.betcha it'll sound cool, though.

True 'nuff. I almost sig'd Mike's big words one... then thought naaaaah, BFH is much cool than BFW's.

this is how the cowl fits against the motor.i was really hoping that the air intake for the heater would not be affected, and fortunately it isn't.

still, lots of surgery to do in this area.

also, when i made the motor mounts,i dropped the motor a little more(the bottom of the oil pan is now level with the bottom of the frame)so the oil cap actually clears the hood.i think that i'll still shave it though-it'll look cleaner.

a shot towards the dash.if you look close you can see a spot in the frame rail where i notched it out for foot room by the gas pedal.this will be plated back in on an angle, giving me about 2 1/4'' more room to swing my foot from the gas to the brake.

it's still tight, but every little bit counts.
