so,on a project like this there are some major milestones,as well as the minor ones.i'm getting real close to the first major one-rolling chassis.
those that remember the first page of this thread may recall that my goal for spring was rolling chassis, that should happen next week,so you could say i'm ahead of schedule.
so what's rolling chassis?
that's when the car can be pushed around the shop on it's own wheels and suspension.it must be steerable by it's own steering wheel, but brakes are not required.
major components such as the engine and trans must be bolted in.
the next stage after this is 'moveable under it's own power'.
this means,of course, that the engine must be able to run.exhaust need not be complete, but headers must be on the engine.cooling system need not be complete.
driveshaft must be in,and brakes must be functional.throttle pedal must be functional.fuel can be from a temporary container.
this is the last stage before it gets torn down and removed from the house.so i can drive it in the basement.
after this comes 'driveable'
this means that the chassis welding must be complete, fuel system permanent, seats mounted, cooling system complete,e-brake functional.
at this stage the body need not be on,but otherwise the car could be driven as far as wanted without mechanical issues.
last,'finished'.
bodywork and paint complete.interior finished.all electrical fully functional.
as would be expected,at this point there should not be anything left to do but enjoy the fruits of your labour.
i hope i get there soon.
