Gt-12

it'll be a bit heavier than stock, but not a whole lot.the rear end is a fair bit heavier than stock,as is the transmission.the metal i added to the frame is a bit heavier than what i removed, front suspension is about the same.
i don't recall what the stock weight was,but it was light.i could grab under the back and pick the rear of the car right off the ground.i can't do that anymore, the d44 pig is pretty heavy.

i have to wait till the movie comes out on video to see it as we don't have a theater on the islands, but it looks like a good one.

today it's officially 3 months i've been at this thing.

the last few days i've been doing little stuff...

gt6001-46.jpg

like running brake lines, and other detail stuff.

gt6002-40.jpg

the sidepipes finally came in today.they are a little cheesy, but i can work with them.

gt6003-38.jpg

the left header also came in...some assembly required.

so that was another g-note gone.

LOL, no doubt hey.

I wish I still had your kinda free time to play with too Gwaii. If I'm lucky I have 3 or so hours a week to play with most weeks. Until I get fed up and make the time to myself, that never goes over well with the wife, but meh, a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do, I say.

Those side pipes kinda remind me of "little red express" stacks. So are they going to hang out the side of the body completely, or frenched in a bit or what? What's your plans, I know you have it all pictured in your head already. :D Frenched in under the doors but have em hang out a bit would look sweet!.

I see what you mean by the seats are already at the back tires, lol.

sometimes you just have to stand up to the wife(don't tell mine i said that:black_eye:)and make time.for me,it was mostly about giving up tv time.i've gotten pretty good at avoiding work, too.but i still need to do enough to pay for all this crap.

this is a 5' hunk of 5'' exhaust pipe i bought.i'll split it lengthwise and use it for the rockers, turned concave.so the pipes will,as you said be partly sunk in,but still hanging out a bit.
that pipe was another $70.

Love seeing those 2 carbs sticking through the hood!

This this is gonna rape & pillage those back tires.....AND I CANT WAIT TO SEE IT!

they are kinda pretty,aren't they.

i always had a soft spot for the dual holleys.

:D

figured this was a good opportunity to show off another homemade tool.

gt6005-24.jpg

i needed a spring compressor that would fit in the confined spaces i'm dealing with,so i had to make my own.the two halves of this one go around the strut, and the top strut mount is the top plate for this thing.the rods go through the small holes to tie the two halves together.

gt6006-13.jpg

here it is in place.
why am i showing this?because to build the header i want to get the front suspension out of the way,and i need to compress the spring to do it.

gt6007-12.jpg

much better.it's still kinda crowded, but i can work with this.

gt6008-10.jpg

i drew out this schematic for the headers about 4 1/2 years ago.it's been through hell since, but i can still read it...so all's good.

gt6009-7.jpg

and the first tube gets placed.note that the ground clamp is on the header tube, not the engine block.improper grounding can do serious damage to an engine when doing this sort of welding,so always consider the path the electricity will take, and avoid having it go anywhere it can do damage.

it helps that i drew it in the first place, even if it was in ancient history:D

i'm just glad to have some material to work with again....this stuff should have been here two weeks ago.

once i get my metal order in from terrace(western pacific metals, good guys:icon_thumby:)i'll have lots to do.too bad it's going to take up the better part of four days to go pick it up.
oh well, that's the price you pay for living in this rainy paradise.i have fun.

Nice work on the spring compression tool. I'm very impressed with all of your work. This project is just proof that the right guy with the right tools can do about anything he wants. I remember at the first when you were fitting the seats and I was amazed you got all of that to fit. I mean literally, there's a term we use around here that fits what you are doing perfectly, and that is "stuffing 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag" (not that your stuff is shit though). You've managed to fit a lot of things in this car that would have made the original designers and engineers' heads spin.

Very nice work man. I hope you do a video of you taking a spin it in when it's road worthy.

thanks...i keep telling people that if you have the drive to create something, nothing can stop you.everything else is secondary.

and trust me,this project will be documented right to the end....and beyond.
so that first drive will be filmed and posted as has every other detail of this build:icon_thumby:

i just need to get this one done,as there are other builds to finish up too!

(plus my uncontrollable mind has been designing the next monstrosity while i've been working on this one)

Tom this is just looking to be amazing! I'm stoked to see the pipes go on
