On my new 1999 ranger, when shifting into 3rd and 4th I'm getting grinding but it goes into gear, 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse no grinding at all, I opened the inspection rubber and the throw out bearing looks like it's getting plenty of travel when the clutch is pushed in, 1/2" at least..

checked the tranny fluid and it's a little over full, fluid is nice and bright red, no shavings on the magnet.

am I looking at syncro's?

Yes, it reads like that is the issue.

You can try double clutching, used prior to synchro-mesh being added to manual transmission.
Clutch in, shift to neutral, clutch out
rev engine or let rpm go down depending if you are going from 2nd to 3rd, or 5th to 4th
Clutch in, shift to desired gear, clutch out.

When you get the hang of it, this matches gear set speeds like the synchro does.

Also how many miles? And before you go and do anything drastic like take the transmission out, drain and refill the fluid in it first and try it. Remember that transmission takes ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid).
