New member from Raton NM. Bought a '97 Ranger XLT a couple of years ago. It is extended cab, 4WD, 4.0L, 5 SPD, limited slip in the rear. It has 106,000 miles and runs great.

A question right out of the chute: The drivers door jamb data plate if missing. The truck is a 97 and the color is silver. According to the factory sales brochure on this site there was only one silver paint on the ranger that year.

If you have a silver 97 (or there abouts) please give me the Ford code for the exterior silver paint color.

Many thanks.

Jim

Welcome!

I don't have a silver truck so i cant help on the question.

I think when i last drove through your town, mid july, you guys were having a hot air balloon event going on. It was cool to see so many flying

Town has a baloon fest every year. This year, last day of it the wind was calm and most of them landed a mile or so from launch. On came down in the I-25 median. Reckon that was a white knuckle landing.

More paint info:

The 95, 96 and 97 Ford sales brochures list "silver CC metallic" as the only light silver color, the 98 brochure does not list that color. No Paint code in the brochures.

Welcome to the site.

What CrabGuy said. Shop manual says Silver Metallic C/C is YN for '97.
You don't see a lot that color.
Replacing door plate is a b*tch. I mean, you can get them printed for like $25 but you'd have to know all the codes. I have all the stuff to replace my missing one except a few things that are really hard to find out like spring codes and some of the weights, but I'll probably take my best guess on those. Or not, and just forget about it.

Guys, based on your feedback I'm going to tell the bodyshop to use code YN.

Many thanks.

I have a Ford shop disc here for 96-99 models if I can get the chance to dig through it, might be tomorrow night or Sunday.

I'm not having any luck with that 96-99 Ford disk, it just doesn't want to run, The one I have for the 93 never does cause any problem,
I got em both on Ebay, the 93/94 when I first got the Ranger in 2k5 or 6, and the 95-99 disc after getting the 96 Explorer 3 or 4 years ago. They're both the original disks they used at the Ford Shops for those years, and if you dig far enough you'll find anything there is to know about those year vehicles.
I just can;t get the 96/99 to work on either my old rag computer I use for old stuff or the newer one either :/
