I recognize you from GL4x4, I think. Anyways, dont worry about it, If its the one I think your talking about, its normal to feel stupid, if its not, then some one is having a bad day. One nice thing about this forum is that there isnt a lot of flaming.

Oh yea, I have been enjoying :icon_pepsi: so if I sound like an ass I am sorry. :icon_twisted:

I would concentrate on not getting worked up on the little things. I found the thread you were talking about. Spouting qualifications does not make you right or wrong. MAKG may not be the most subtle person here, but he does know his stuff.

Your first reply in the aforementioned thread did little to help the guy and did nothing for a newbie in terms of finding the root cause of the problem. You went into more detail in your second post about WHAT could cause the problem, which gives the OP a place to start looking, whether or not it turns out to be correct, but you did so in a confrontational tone directed at another board member. You probably scared the OP away.

The only way you can take offense to someone disagreeing with you, while listing out his own thoughts, is if you really do know it all. And those who think they know it all greatly annoy those of us who do. :taunt: Treat a diagnostic thread more like a differential diagnosis and keep the OP involved until the problem is fixed...or he sells the truck. It's no different than how the service manuals walk you through a set of logical steps to eliminate all incorrect assumptions about the problem.

its an internet forum...people like to feel tough when hiding behind their computer monitors.

TRS has a very good group of guys and gals, but every now and then the anonymity gets the better of someone and they will lash out. its not a big deal. TRS is about the best ive found for people remaining respectful to one another even if they have a disagreement. other sites are total anarchy.

Are you referring to MAKG? He tends to rub some the wrong way and can come off as quite ignorant, but rest assured he is always a good source of information. I tend to find his posts on the products that border on the perpetual motion machine type scams quite entertaining.

The man is a scientist to a fault. Saying that, his diplomatic skills are not so sharp at times. :icon_rofl:

Take it with a grain of salt. I've learned (and have been reminded of) more than a few things from his posts.

You were dissed on an internet forum. It's going to happen at times.

I knew where this was going once I read the first sentence.

so i am not the first i guess, nor will i be the last i assume.

anyway i do agree with the "other sites being anarchy"

i do frequent GL4x4 quite a bit. its very laid back there and just about anything goes. seems the site somewhat runs its self.

"Not bragging" is like "with all due respect"--the thing that follows is always exactly what you say you aren't doing.

Seriously, I know of three tech advisors--AllanD, MAKG and bobbywalters. If any of those guys says something it isn't lightly. I've known them from this forum or the previous one for about 10 years and if they say something you check your own premis before coming back and refuting it. I've certainly disagreed with all of them on maybe 2 occasions each over the years--but those occasions are seriously far between. They are all extremely intelligent and experienced people. And are very direct too. I never argue with them without posting my references. Which I do.

Alan D has mellowed with age. Years ago if you asked him a question, he would insult hell out of you, talk to you like a dog for even asking, then give you the answer. He doesn't do that so much anymore.

There is no hope for MAKG. His ego won't let him be civil. Also, he isn't quite as sharp on automotive stuff as most people think. Alan corrects him many times, as have others. He seems to be more driveline oriented than general diagnosis.

Bobby is direct and to the point.:)shady

I've seen MAKG get busted on two subjects; Forced Induction (doesn't seem to have any experience) and Rust Issues (he lives in Cali, need I say more?). Other than that he knows his stuff. He's definately more of a research scientist than a mechanic though.

I gotta say, the dialog in that thread was pretty civil. I wouldn't say you were 'dissed' .... everyones wrong once in a while, some more than others, get over yourself.

Let's not let this turn in to a public bashing of MAKG. Yes he's knowlegeable. I honestly don't know what his background is exactly, but I know he's helped a lot of people with what he does know.

You wouldn't be the first person to bring up his people skills and Ryan or myself will bring it to his attention once in a great while if we have to.

If you've been a mechanic long, then you've been around other mechanic's that you didn't like and you learned to ignore them like everyone else.

This isn't one of those forums where everyone who's "staff" can do what they want, be as rude as they want and get away with it. We've done everything from temporarily banning staff to removing them completely - though it has rarely had to happen.
