got dissed already

I would concentrate on not getting worked up on the little things. I found the thread you were talking about. Spouting qualifications does not make you right or wrong. MAKG may not be the most subtle person here, but he does know his stuff.

Your first reply in the aforementioned thread did little to help the guy and did nothing for a newbie in terms of finding the root cause of the problem. You went into more detail in your second post about WHAT could cause the problem, which gives the OP a place to start looking, whether or not it turns out to be correct, but you did so in a confrontational tone directed at another board member. You probably scared the OP away.

The only way you can take offense to someone disagreeing with you, while listing out his own thoughts, is if you really do know it all. And those who think they know it all greatly annoy those of us who do. :taunt: Treat a diagnostic thread more like a differential diagnosis and keep the OP involved until the problem is fixed...or he sells the truck. It's no different than how the service manuals walk you through a set of logical steps to eliminate all incorrect assumptions about the problem.

sorry but WTF ?:icon_rofl:

Krugford's reply was both clear AND spot on. You were not 'dissed'. You got an attitude when somebody corrected you. Certifications and experience don't mean you're always right.

ok true but its not ok when some one does it just to be a smartass. i was looking for a trac loc for my rear end and i used the word posi. and ppl got there shit all n a bunch. they know what i was trying to get accross but they had to be a smart ass and say go pull a rear end out of a chevy.

OH MY GOD! MAKG WAS WRONG ABOUT A COUPLE THINGS?? I HAVENT SEEN A SITUATION LIKE THIS IN YEARS!! WE GOT A HUMAN ON OUR HANDS!!!

seriously, leave him alone. Think back over the years how many times you've said something that you later found out was wrong. Think about how you felt. Dont make someone else feel worse about it. Thats crap, having someone pick at your human mistakes. It's plain old BS.

This isn't one of those forums where everyone who's "staff" can do what they want, be as rude as they want and get away with it. We've done everything from temporarily banning staff to removing them completely - though it has rarely had to happen.

When did that rule change? Must have missed another memo...

:icon_rofl:

Let's not let this turn in to a public bashing of MAKG. Yes he's knowlegeable. I honestly don't know what his background is exactly, but I know he's helped a lot of people with what he does know.

You wouldn't be the first person to bring up his people skills and Ryan or myself will bring it to his attention once in a great while if we have to.

If you've been a mechanic long, then you've been around other mechanic's that you didn't like and you learned to ignore them like everyone else.

agreed

if i spent my time dealing with the same stupid questions from people i would be less personable than a drunk in detox too! MAKG, allanD, and others around here do a good job about managing the revolving door of new members and idiots. be more accepting of there responses regardless of how much of an asshole they appear to be when doing so. trust me, they have gotten under my skin before too. i am happy to have a new member who offered experienced advice early on and did not join just to ask how to change there wheel bearings!

memo? what memo? I haven't received any memo's from TRS owners in AGES!

Shut up, you don't even own a Ranger OR a Bronco II.

Didn't you get rescued by one in Wellsville though?

Oh ya, :thefinger::thefinger: - back at ya! :D

i have no idea what thread you guys are talking about but this is some pretty funny stuff.

The tech section on this site is great and i've learned tons from the tech section, technical advisors and plain old members. nobody is perfect, not even the "staff". some people aren't good with people but some aren't good with trucks. all we can do is try.
good luck with your arguments

:icon_surprised:

What?!?! You sure about that?!?!

I'm trying to remember...I was wrong...once...that would have been when I thought I was wrong...but I wasn't... :dunno:

J/K The staff here at TRS happens to be one of the best groups around. I'm not saying that because I'm on the staff, but because I have met almost everyone of them in person, been wheelin' with them and consider them friends. Hell we have discuusions and arguments between ourselves. We are all individuals with our own opinions trying to do what's best for the site. We don't always agree, but that's what makes it work. There's a check's and balance system and for the most part, we discuss most situations that effect the site. That includes everything from creating new forums, what items get put on the tech pages, events, and yes, even when it's time to swing the "ban hammer" and we have to decide if a member needs to go.

We have never claimed to be perfect...except for me of course...but what we do must work, like it or not. We have kept this site going for almost ten years and even internationaly circulated magazines refer to TRS when it comes to RBV tech. We still try to have fun also. It's a heck of a challange...

If at times the staff seems to be a little short with their answers, sarcastic...think about this...In the last 9+ years I have probally answered the question... " what size of tire will fit on my Ranger" and "what's the best axle for a SAS swap about 3000 times. That's just me. We have about 15 on the staff...

:3gears:

Well I personally have learned a great deal of information from many of the staff as well as just regular members on this site for over 5-6 years now. I look forward to reading information that is often way above my head just to learn. While I never expect everyone to be perfect with all of the information, it is helpful to have discussions, heated or not, to toss logical ideas around. I mean we are trying to diagnose trucks over the internet, it has certainly taught me how to diagnose my truck better than before I started. I would guess that is the goal of every member here. To learn more than when they started. And that goes for everyone, including the OP and the technical advisors. We are always trying to learn! :)
