Truck it came from was Tboned....looks good, seals look to be new. So what do I need to know about installing? Since the case bell housing is one piece it looks like the the torque converter would have to be bolted to the flywheel and then slide tranny in? Dude that took out tranny showed me something about having to spin the torque converter and stop after three clicks??? I dunno, last time I installed a tranny it was a turbo 350 and it was basically up and in and I think there was a half pan to let down to bolt torque converter in. HELP!

For sure I have to reuse my tranny pan and so I might as well get a new filter, the shifter connector was bent so I have to use mine, hope it comes off easy. What do you think about using Lucas Oil tranny fluid additive? I believe I will empty the fluid from the torque converter and then refill with new.

You have to make sure the torque converter is properly seated on the transmission (the 3 right twist and clunks) Before you move transmission to its bolted on position. If you don't you are going to break stuff.

Then once the transmission is bolted on do you bolt the TC to the flywheel.

And I would not use the Lucas additive unless its already slipping. And if it is. you are only buying time.

Also the Y-pipe is almost always a problem. the easiest solution to it is to unbolt the cab on the passenger side and jack up the cab 2 inches. Its easier then trying to deal with broken Y-pipe bolts. which are almost guaranteed to break.

I will add, do not tighten bolts to force tranny into place!! Turn torque converter [T.C.] while pushing it in to tranny. A straight edge and measuring tape adds a bit of confidence that it is seated. From the face of the tranny to where the T.C. bolts to the flexplate/flywheel should be the same as from the back of motor to where the T.C. bolts to the flexplate/flywheel. Please get a measurement and post, as I never thought to. iirc; it's 3/8" or 1/2" or so.
Good luck,
Richard

If you don't get all three clicks on the torque converter it bolts up and the engine won't turn over.So turn it over with a wrench from the front of the engine before you start it to check.

Thanks...man this sounds like a pain....I didn't have this much crap to worry about when I installed in turbo 350 in a 65 Chevy.

well, the guy who took the tranny out of the donor did the right turn 3 click thing already but only got 2 clicks...he said the 3rd is tricky and then when he couldn't get it he said it must have already had one click done. I kept spinning it to the right and no more clicks, right now the torque converter is sitting in the bell housing and not flush to where it bolts ups it's inside the bolt up area...before he did the click thing the shaft was way out.

Thanks for the help folks...I scraped up 300 bucks and had a person install my boneyard tranny and it works great..Thank the Lord! I finally have my Ranger back after 3 months being idle! The guy was great, he replaced the flywheel too.
