My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Its been a while.

My Charger (not really a sleeper) was my last "fast" car and since a maple tree combined with a lighting storm took that from me...

Im in the market for something to make into a hi-po street/mild strip car.

I dont want to do the cookie cutter Fox body or SN95 mustang, or the mid 90's camero.

Im thinking either a Caprice, or Crown Vic. Im leaning more torward a 98+ crown vic mainly because i like the looks of them more then the caprice, and finding a caprice in good shape is hard, even though building a 350 chevy would be alot cheaper then modding a 4.6L Ford.

My question is...

1- Ive had a crown vic before, it was a 99 P76 (Civilian) vic, it had some giddyup even with the 2.75 gears. Ive never drivin a caprice...how do they run compared to the vics outta the box?

2- What platform would you guys reccomend? I want something bigger, and preferably RWD. Handiling is not that important to me, i just want straight line performance.

3- Whats the most cost effective mods you can do to a 4.6L?

One other option im kicking around is getting my old 77 LTD II running again, and building the 351W and dropping in a set of 3.55's, how would that work?

Any input is appreciated, im leaning toward a Vic, but im open to anything.

later,
Dustin

i'd look for a Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (often referred to simply as CVPI or P71. they have lots of pep and can be modded even more..

I've been having the same thoughts.....sort of...

My wife has never experienced the fun of a rear wheel drive V8 powered fullsize car with a shift kit that chirps the tires when it shifts.

It won't be for at least another year, but I want to find a project car. The wife likes the first generation Camaros. I hate having something everyone else does. It won't be a Ford. Sorry guys. Ford cars never impressed me much.

For me, it will either be a GM A-Body or G-Body.

Ok.....I'll think Ford.......

What about a Maverick?

I knew of a guy who had one when I was in high school. It was stupid fast.

How about a Fairmont?

You can always get a newer Crown Vic and give it the Marauder look....

What about a 5.0T AWD Ranger? That's what I wanna do... I would definitely do something unique... Maybe a Buick Regal GNX? Nobody expects to get beat by a Buick, lol... I sure didn't when one killed me at the track...

the police interceptor crown vics are pretty damn fast. my dad was talking to a police officer he knows and he said he was clocked at 167MPH when he blew by another cop running to the same call. now if thats really how fast he was going i dont know but those things can go pretty damn fast.

I dont know the Buick Grand National is considered sleeper but those are pretty cool little cars. i would go with the Maverick though

66 mustang? thats what i want.

if i were you id do the LTD, ive always wanted one like in Men In Black but with a nasty motor under the hood:D

I would have to go with a fairmont, my dads friend had one or still has one(been awhile seen i've seen the guy) It was purple and black, real sleeper lookin car.
But personally, the more i think about it, i really like the 67 camaro SS' (the ones before they changed the front clip to a flippin bird beak, Also partial to the newer style trans-ams with the mongoose hoods)

I'd love to have a Ford Maverick

Of course, it's only available outside NA...

Back to the real thing, I think an old LTD with a nasty motor would be real cool... I could imagine someone pulling up in a beat-up black and white, with a lopey idle :D

i watched a street racing ppv one time and they had a build LTD painted up like a cop car lights and all.. but had a big doughnut on the side of it ... i have a boss 429 with trans... hrmm what fun that would be haha

How about a 96 Impala SS? I always thought those things looked sweet black. There's a lady drivin one around here and it sounds badass. I had a 383S10 and the 350 block came out of a 96 Impala.

Id do the 77 and leave it stock looking. Then I'd through everything I had into the running gear to make it a screamer.

:bsflag:

When I was a State Trooper I got a new Crown Vic every 2-years. I can tell you that the crown vic won't go over 130 from personal experiences. Even going down a grade. The power on the Vic always seemed to kick in and out at 130 like something was holding it back.

The interceptor didn't even come with the good 4.6 that you could find in Mustangs and Lincolns.

The only thing that makes the Crown Vic an interceptor is the improved suspension and cooling packages. You could run flat out all day long and the only thing that would over heat was the driver because the A/C compressor cuts off when running at all out full throttle.

lol, i love that, its cool to see people bring out the old sleepers, then it lets you see who's talking out of the ass, cause they say F a buick and and every one else sits back and laugh.

but you want a real sleeper and stay ford. the ford festiva, maybe a 2.2 turbo in it ir a gsxr motor init,

and if i was ever gonna do one id do a VW "thing"

Mercury Marauder
