Getting the itch for a hi-po street sleeper....

The SHOgun

In 1990, Chuck Beck of Special Editions and Rick Titus took seven Festivas, gutted the interiors, and mounted Ford SHO 3.0 L V6s behind the front seats to make the car mid-engined. There were substantial cosmetic and mechanical changes, including relocating the gas tank to the front of the car, structural bracing and improvements to the chassis, adding wider wheel arches to accommodate a wider stance and larger tires, and a complete redesign of the suspension. These changes resulted in a car that could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds, travel the ¼ mile (0.4 km) in 12.9 seconds at 100.9 mph (162 km/h), and could achieve a lateral acceleration figure ranging from .95 to 1.04 g[1]. Of the seven, Jay Leno owns the silver one, which is number 3[2].

I knew of a guy who had one when I was in high school. It was stupid fast.

How about a Fairmont?

Just put the engine in it last weekend. It had 250 6 cylinder, car only has 49k on the clock. He found a roller 5.0l with only about 5k, and got some 289 heads from our local pull-a-part, put it all together with the original C4 (rebuilt of course)...put in some 3.50 gears and the car MOVES. Mavericks share a lot of parts with 64-66 mustangs.

This is his brothers car. It had a whooped 302 in it (you could spin it over with your hands). They found another one and did a decent build on it, again put used the C4, rebuilt. It has a high stall converter so its currently waiting for the 3.73 8.8 to go in, as the converter DOES NOT like the 2.73 gears that are currently in it. It still moves damn good though, does 80 in first gear with the 2.73s :icon_surprised: The great thing about these cars is they share a lot of parts with fox body stangs, including suspension.

For the Crown Vic...check out www.crownvic.net LOTS of info on modding Vics.

Actually LTD II's arnt as heavy as you think.

According to this site....http://grantorinosport.org/77ltdii.htm

A LTD II's Shipping weight was 3789. Not sure what that figures but 4K isnt really that much.

A good running 351W with some decent gears oughta haul it around just fine.

Do I want something that will smoke a SCJ 351 mustang? no. Do i want something to beat the snot nosed shit talking 16 year olds with a 15 yr old corolla they think is fast? Yes.

I just like a big fast car.

later,
Dustin

I'm starting to like these Fairmonts more and more......
