General Maintainence: Nope!

I am ASHAMED of owning an American-made vehicle where I cannot readily access to change supposedly "simple" and general maintainence items. You know, I saved probably $200+ when I owned my Accord by doing the most basic things myself.
Hey 4.0l Ranger owners , wanna remove the fan shroud to change your belt? Gotta buy a few special tools! NICE ONE
Wanna change the PCV valve? Oh, let's put the thing on the BACK of the intake manifold 1/2" away from the firewall and use some special retainer so you can't pull it out like a normal setup. BULLCRAP.
Wanna change your spark plugs? HA! According to the svc manual you have to remove the tires and the fender splash??!!! RIDICULOUS.
Fuel filter? Yeah, let's put that in the REAR of the vehicle inside the frame rail!
This is obviously a sick and twisted ploy and I'm severely disgusted at this joke of an engine/setup. Screw you, Ford.
 
Well I changed my pcv valve and didnt need a special too I reached to the back of the motor pulled it out had to disconnect coolant line that ran to was all but didnt need special tool for that. I also changed my belt too and tensioner and idler pullies and I didnt need special tool to remove fan shroud I went in from the bottom to the release the tensioner pully. The spark plugs I agree with you on that that was a little difficult but got the job done.
 
calm down dude like stated above i replaced all and i had no trouble lol
 
I dunno--I have a special wrench set to take off the fan. I have a special set of fuel line disconnectors and a clutch line thingy. I think he's right. But it probably wasn't intentional on Ford's part.
 
Spark plugs are easy to get to under the hood and you should only have to remove egr from the wheel well. Pcv valve neeeds no tools to replace. If you think you need to remove the fan SHROUD to change a belt then you deserve to remove it. I just did mine today, did not have to take apart anything to do that. Fuel Filter is in a great easy access location inside the frame rail right under the driver seat. Also you do not need special tools for those fittings, though it does make things quicker. ALL PRAISE TO FORD. I THINK EDGEFOUR SHOULD OWN A BICYCLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HIS FORD OUT SMARTS HIM!!!!!!

Huh, and he complains about getting to the plugs on a ranger, try changing them on a 94 5.0 mustang. Or help the economy and spend $300 to have your spark plugs change, which only cost 2.49 ( that comes out to 14.94)...i bet this guys a cutie.
 
thered be no bitching if he had to change the timing belt on the honda himself
 
+1. The fuel filter on my Honda is in a horrible location too, much worse then my Ranger. On the firewall, behind the engine, with all sorts of wiring and vacuum hoses right above it. :fie: In fact, forget the fuel filter, let's talk about the oil filter on the Honda! On the BACK of the engine, facing the firewall, right above the exhaust pipe! Yea, so not only is there a great risk of burning your arm while removing it, it also drips oil all over the exhaust. Makes a nice stink for the next 500 miles. Great job HONDA!....
 
lol yeh some cars have some goofy designs for simple things. Overall my ranger is relatively easy to work on... Much easier than getting underneath my moms cars to do an oil change... She now has a Benz that my dad just takes to the dealership because its such a pain in the ass.

Ya it makes a nice stink but you also get to call the car old smokey for a while as the oil burns off. My first few oil changes I spilled oil onto the exhaust manifold and got called old smokey til it burned off.

The 80's regal V6's changed the plugs thru the wheelwell....so what?

The fuel pressure on your truck is probably 70PSI....having the filter inside the frame rail is a very good idea.

And I'd be very surprised if you HAVE to remove the shroud to change the belt.


And for the 94 stang plug change....done it, wasn't that bad.
 
64-67 Sunbeam Tigers are unpleasant to work on but very pleasurable to drive. The Ranger is a "LEGO set" to work on compared, and a very good vehicle to access parts needed to replace. Enjoy
 
I did the timing belt on my Honda in an hour and needed no special tools.

The pushrod 4.0 you gotta take the heads off to get the lifters out. That's about $200 in parts just to get the lifters in your hands--not to mention the fantastic amount of work involved.

Old Rangers aren't hard to work on though. It's the thing I like about them.
