been told i have to change the whole carrier to fit 4.56 and up gears in a d-35 and 8,8 rear in a 92 4.0l xlt ranger?? is this true?i have 3.73 right now with 33 12.5 and im trying to make things easyer on my a4ld since they need more tlc...i figure that and huge tranny cooler

Nope, neither have a carrier break. The Jeep Dana 35 axles have a carrier break (IIRC at 3.73), but the ford TTB units do not. The gears are also different between the two, don't make the same mistake I did...

Correct, all HP D35 TTBs use the "hi-ratio" (3.55up) carrier, regardless of ratio.

The 8.8 has no carrier break at all, all gears fit all carriers.

so i can buy 4.56 gears from yukon and they should fit my carrier no prob.??or what else is there to do to fit those gears in?

correct the 4.56's will fit on your currnet carriers.

some shops may want to use a notched cross pen,I suggest notching the ring gear. Its such a little amount it will not affect anthing, over using as notched cross pen.

and good choice on gears with 33's,your auto will thank you.

There is no carrier break, meaning any set of gears will fit in any carrier.
