Gathering for my sas

Okay I just picked up a Dana from a 78 f150 I also got some coils suposidly they are 5.5 inch and some drop brackets and radius arms .

What is hi stear ?

Is high steer like those blocks that go on top of the flat top knuckles ? I don't have flat top knuckles , what now? Buy flat top knuckles but can I still use disk brakes?

Yes.
You'll have to buy some.
And yes, oem GM knuckles require a bunch of different parts, and aftermarket ones will take all the ford parts but get very pricey.

What "drop brackets" did you get? You don't need any drop brackets. Just the 78-79 bronco/ 73-79 F-150 radius arm brackets.

If not already, i'd put the tierod on top of the knuckles.

Then you'll need...
Coil buckets
Track bar mount
Track bar components
Steering kit
7 degree C-bushing kit
Custom transmission/ radius arm bracket crossmember
Brake lines
...and few more odds and ends

I was looking at the Reid racing knuckles , good stuff ? Price isn't that huge of a deal is honesty rather pay a few dollars them piece s bunch of shit together that I have no clue about lol.

The brackets are from a lift kit, I can use those right ?
I have super super long break lines as it is so I'm good there .

Buckets I might just make depends what I can find

Reid knuckles are nice, they are already machined for highsteer and will accept all the Ford hardware. I know Ford 3/4 knuckles wont clear 1/2 ton calipers, so double check the Reids to see if they are 3/4 or 1/2.

If you do a search or just take few hours to read through some SAS builds on here you can answer 99% of your questions. Every build is a little different, but you should expect that when using junkyard parts to redesign a front suspension. People have used different axles, knuckles, coils, arms, etc. You can pull info from all the builds and take all of it into consideration when building your own.

Well that has been my problem, I've read tons but since everyone is doing different set ups I don't know what goes with what you know. But I have it figured out I'm ordering Reid knuckles a bunch of new parts like bushings ball joints bearings stuff like that.

Basically my plan is mount the Dana here in a week or so and go from there . Steering and trac bar will come after I mout it. I should probably start a new thread at that point I don't want to turn this one into something els

you just have to plan it out. i've been planning mine for around 2 years now, still havent fully determined what gear box to use. I found a guy on craigslist around me with a set of new Reid knuckles for 225.

Soooo...are you going to buy those Reids? If you decide not to I'll work a deal out with you.

Using OEM parts for flat top knuckle conversions really isnt that god-awful difficult

You need:

73-76.5 Chevy 1/2 ton knuckles. Driver side is drilled/tapped for high steer. Passenger side will need machined/drilled/tapped. OR if you can find a FSJ (Fullsize Jeep) passenger side knuckle, it will already be drilled/tapped from the factory.

73-76.5 Chevy 1/2 ton caliper brackets, SMALL bearing spindles, and stub shafts (the spindles are 1/4" longer than the ford spindles)

If you can find all of these parts, a ford rotor will fit perfectly on there to retain the 5x5.5 bolt pattern.

Chevy big bearing spindles can also be turned down to accept small bearing. OEM parts are cheap and easy to piece together. No reason to drop major coin on Reids if you are starting from scratch as far as.brake hardware goes.

The ones I was lookin at got sold.
Those aren't a bad deal depending on shipping costs.

I'm also thinking of going hydro assist steering. Not %100 sure if its legal on the streets tho

Hydro assist is perfectly legal.
