have yall noticed the differences in prices between regular, mid, and premium gas prices?

i noticed the odd differences a month or so ago and i cannot figure out why there is such a difference. its about 50 cents between each type.

i got gas last night, regular. it was 2.95 a gallon.

the mid grade handle said 3.45 above it and the premium said 3.85 above it. its 40 cents there but i have seen up to 55 cents between each type within the last month.

its odd.

Our 87 octane was $3.35 when I bought some this week, the 93 octane my Mustang runs costs $.95 more per gallon.

For a very brief period of time, diesel was cheaper than any grade of gasoline here... it was like $3.44 vs $3.45 or something like that. Very small difference but I haven't seen that happen in a long time.

Ours was at $3.39 for E-10 87 octane most of the spring & summer but now that the Sturgis Rally is ramping up they jacked it up to $3.59... bastards.

When I was growing up.. almost until the time I started to drive.. there was a 10 cent difference in price between each of the grades. Now.. 89 is 40-50 cents more than 87 and 91/93 is 60-70 cents more than 89 🙄

Here in P.A. I've switched both my vehicles,( 01 Ranger and 97 Rodeo), over to non ethanol fuel. Also all gas powered equipment. Everything runs better period. But it costs quite a bit more. From my last fill up.

This is exactly what bothers me. Why is it so much more

figure it in percentages

I tried non ethanol in my Mustang and it didn't like it, 90 octane was the best I could get. Now I use the E10 and dose it with marine Stabil. Ethanol in the gas reduces mpg- from my experience about 5%- and takes more energy to produce than it makes.
We first got E10- it was called gasahol- in the late 70's so I tried it. Gas mileage dropped and the car struggled to start in subzero weather because alcohol doesn't vaporize well when cold. The one station that sold it dropped it during the first winter because they got sick of the complaints. Cold starts are less bothersome with fuel injection.

I noticed that too, 93 costing 50c more a gallon over 87.

I could guess that there are fewer vehicles that require 93 octane, so they don't have economy of scale when producing it.

We can't get straight gas here, only gasahol.

Adding to the data; I have some of the cheapest gas around this part of the country and the 87-93 octane gap is about/over $1. I think the one I fill up at is about $3.20 to $4.20. When I had my turbo 4cyl it was the same price to drive my bigger n/a cars.

Only E10 is available. I run it in both my EFI and carbureted cars. If they end up bumping that to E15 I might have to write a letter to some lawmakers...

i have a few gas stations that are actual gasoline here, not alcohol mixed. i haven't been by to check prices there lately but maybe i will run by after work to get a comparison.
