Leave the damn gas prices alone..........

I'd disagree with the section 8 comment...you can only live in certain places (that are pretty damn nice, btw) and there really is quite a bit of cost on the tenant's part too. I agree that you shouldn't live somewhere if you can't afford it, but when a studio apartment is $600 a month and a 3 bedroom house is $1400 after utilities it really makes you think about who is really getting rich and who is getting screwed because there is no other alternative.
ya know, I guess in theory, section 8 was a good idea. But like many other gov't run services, it's ineffecient, poorly managed, or just plain corrupt. I can't comment on what prices are in SD, but i know what they're like in jersey. And I know how much tenants pay in rent and how much HUD picks up. I was a landlord. Still am. So was my brother in law and my father. We've dealt with HUD and their ridiculous inspection requirements.
I would say the avg tenant co-pay was $300-500 per month on a house that was usually about 12-1500 ish. There was an extreme case where the lady was only paying $1. HUD picked up the rest. Yes, thats ONE sawbuck per month. And even with that she was late and got hit with a $50 late fee. The other thing that pissed me off was the amount of crap these "poor" people had. Most of them had fairly late model SUV's complete with rims. Some even had spinners. One lady had a big screen TV, computer, exercise equipment, fish tank, several dogs, and a new dining room set. Another lady got a catholic charity to front her the money for the security deposit. One of my favorites was a couple that were so happy with the size of the basement cause they could put their pool table in there. Funny how all these "poor" people didn't have enough to pay the rent that was asked yet are able to accumulate some of the finer things in life.:dunno:
And I would say that 85% of them had mulitple children by multiple fathers. The worst was a lady that had 5 or six kids by 4 different men. :shok:
I'm not going to blame a leech for being a leech. You put food in front of a parasite, and they're going to eat it. Same goes with free money to low rent trailer trash human garbage. We must overhaul the system or get rid of it entirely.

Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.

Gas prices are influenced by our own damn government officials that have stocks in them, and they are in a panic right now and will support Cepec or whatever other corporations are trying to crank profits back up to trillions per year.

Here's my personal observations, Im only 17, so dont base too much of your opinions on my statements if you agree or disagree:

I have noticed that the government has a tendency to help the people who have made stupid decisions and gotten themselves into trouble. These people were trying to get rich quick by, say, buying and selling homes. Uneducated people should not be running real estate, they will fail. These people are basically trying to scam their way to wealth, without putting in the required effort. They get themselves into really deep debt, and the government gives them an easy out.

Whereas people like my family, who dont make much, dont invest in stocks, and work hard for what is hardly considered a living(Dad makes about 30K before taxes a year at a sawmill, Mom makes about 25K a year before taxes teaching 1st graders) and it's just not enough for a family of 6 to break even. We could use just a tiny nudge from the government to help us break even, then we could start a savings account and be able to live more stabily, and pay the government back with taxes. The problem with that is that because it is a joint-income family, we dont qualify for help.

So the government helps out people who try to scam their way to the top, and they just end up doing it again, and needing more help, costing the Government a crapload.

The millions of families that just need one small nudge dont get any help, even though they will have a very good potential for return to the government.

So In my shortened opinion, the government has no relation with actual people. They dont represent us one damn bit. They throw our hard-earned dollars at mental fucking idiots that are just going to make the same damn mistakes, whereas the people who PAY those taxes get NOTHING but unnecessary structures like skywalks from building to building, and beautiful bridges that represent nothing, AND WORST OF ALL, MONUMENTS THAT REPRESENT THE VERY GOVERNMENT THAT EVERYBODY IS SICK OF.

EDIT: Sorry if I sounded like a hippy.

Did you know, in 2008, we saw the highest and lowest of gas prices since 2003. I keep a track record of every fill-up I do with the Ranger. Heres a line graph of the prices. Its only 2 fill-ups behind, but still very accurate.

Everyone wants to live like a rockstar, that's the problem.

Real estate is outrageous out here, relatively speaking. I know it's worse elsewhere. The $600/1400 rent I posted earlier is very close. It's hard to live anywhere without either roommates or family splitting the bills.

skid and bum you need to run for office or somethin. we need to start raising some funds.

what it comes down to in regards to buying on credit, "don't buy it if the moneys not in the bank or you dont have steady income."

whatever happened with paying with cash for food or gas? is there anyone out there that still uses cash for fast food? i still do but everyone else i know just swipes the plastic.

you sound like a pretty smart kid, don't start down this conspiracy theory road. Gas prices are not influenced (much) by our gov't. When the world crude-oil market tightens and lowers inventories, the price goes up. The main culprits are Opec which just announced a production decrease to keep profits up and places like Russia which invaded georgia not too long ago. While Georgia has no significant oil or gas reserves on its own, it is an important transit route that supplies the West. The pipeline has been a key factor for the United States' support for Georgia, allowing the West to reduce its reliance on Middle Eastern oil while bypassing Russia and Iran.
The biggest way our gov't influences prices is by (congress)refusing to drill in places like the outer continental shelf and ANWR thus keeping us reliant on places like saudi arabia, venezuela, and nigeria. They won't even consider building any nuclear plants because they are held hostage by the environmentalists. Ahhhh, I can go on for days, but you see my point...

If you want to know why we're in the predicament we're in, google the CRA. The Community Reinvestment Act is the federal government's 1977 law under which the Fed and other financial regulators have pressured/extorted banks into making more loans to less-than-creditworthy borrowers than they would normally be willing to risk.
The CRA Scam and its Defenders is a good link to find more info.
I think you're spot on with some of the people that got into real estate to make a quick buck. They had no idea what they were doing, got interest only loans, adjustable ARMS, or, NINJA loans(No Income, No Job, or Assets), the market slowed and then tanked and now they're stuck holding a couple hundred grand in mortgages and are demanding the gov't help them out cause they got inway over their head and had no idea what they were doing to begin with. And isn't life great, the man who partly got us into this mess, Barney Frank, head of the House Financial Services Committee, the man who once called Herb Moses an executive at Fannie Mae, his "spouse", supported passage of the ($700 Billion) American Housing Rescue & Foreclosure Prevention Act intended to protect thousands of homeowners from foreclosure.
Media Mum on Barney Frank's Fannie Mae Love Connection

Frank's fingerprints are all over the financial fiasco

Amazing isn't it? You work hard, keep your nose clean but you somehow aren't worthy. I bet they gave the money that could have gone to your family to the crack whore who had another child whose dad is in jail right now. Apparently she needs the money more than you guys.

So the government helps out people who try to scam their way to the top, and they just end up doing it again, and needing more help, costing the Government a crapload.
nope, costing US a crapload.

kid, you don't sound like a hippy. You sound like a fledgling young conservative that has his eyes open to the bullshit that is the US gov't of today. Whether you consider yourself rep or dem doesn't matter. You realize that gov't IS the problem.:icon_thumby:
Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

comparing rental rates from city to city is hard enough considering size, # of BR and baths, but here in jersey, i've noticed them coming down from a high of 2500-3000 for a 3/2 condo/house to something in a more sane price range. Our taxes are still crap though. 3/2 split level on 1/4 acre is about $8500 per year. My friend whos got a decent enough house pays in taxes as much as his mortgage. So his P+I is $1500 per month and his taxes are $1500 per month. couple miles downt the road they built a new development. taxes on a unit that was just for sale was $20,000 per/yr.:shok:

I have a 3/2 split level on 3/4 acre,my taxes are $750 a year.Can't imagine what a drain that must be in Jersey,holy cow!

Might I say how proud I am right now of the TRS membership. Reading through the thread, it seems like ALL of you get it, even the younger guys who sometimes haven't been beaten down by life yet enough to see things clearly. I know this is a small sampling of the country, but it still makes you wonder how "we" (52% of the country) elected a closet muslim for president? It still freaks me out...

I just hope the media portrays this guy accurately when he starts screwing up instead of covering up for him. History tells me otherwise, but as long as we have intelligent people on here like ya'll, the truth will be known. Its been said before over and over, the government IS the problem...

and they recently added a real estate transfer tax for the "privilege" of transferring real property. And it's a screwy progressive tax based on the sale price of the home. I just can't understand how our state keeps electing these corrupt money hungry pieces of garbage. We truly deserve what we get in this state. All the liberalism of Kalifornia, none of the hotties.
welcome to NJ. Now give me your wallet

I don't think that raising taxes is the answer to anything that is going on in the country. Raising gas taxes is a short term fix for a bigger problem. The reason that the american public stopped driving as much is because the cost went up, Won't raising the tax cause the same thing in the long run, only making the problem worse? Raising the taxes on diesel fuel will make shipping goods more costly as well, atleast that's the way it seems to me. Take that 700 billon dollars that was given to the banks and use it to repair roads and fund our schools, let the banks fail along with all of the corruption that was inside them. Require a drug test as part of the application process for welfare and other similar programs, along with random testing, that ought to clean some people up. Actually reforming government spending and tossing out worthless programs that cost the taxpayers money, we all know that will never happen because something so corrupt cannot truly reform itself, put all of the programs out on the chopping block and let the public decide which ones they want to support with their tax dollars, but that will never happen because it makes too much sense. I could go on and on /rant...
