New Steering

Finally got to my steering.

Pulled my $15 junk yard setup off that I have been running for 2 years. That is one of the main reasons I could not go faster than 40 mph without a death shake. The TREs were shot on that setup. It was only supposed to be temporary :icon_rofl:

Old Setup

I quickly found out that the OEM panhard / track bar was not going to work with the new setup. I had about 1/8" of clearance lock to lock with the old setup. The new tube is 1.5 x .250 wall where the old stuff was 1" dia. So I had to make a new track bar too. So i measured my tube. They gave me an extra foot! Therefore, I was able to make a new track bar too.

First step was to drill out the knuckles to 3/4".

Cross bar and track bar.
I will need to modify the engine cross member a bit.

How it sits. Still need to enlarge a few holes for the drag bar. They are 1/2 right now. They will be 5/8". Everything also needs to be finish welded.

I might brace the pitman arm. I also wish I made the drag link the same length as the track bar. I ran out of tube haha. We will see how it works.

My dad has a set of Alcoas on his IDI. But they have street tires on them, so the are gonna get swapped for the steelies and STTs on the our old PowerStroke.

He doesn't care about looks, so if someone offered him steel wheels and a few bucks they could have the Alcoas.

Find out what size are on them. My fronts are new and the backs are like 70%. They are 215s I think lol

I want mudders too. But that is a ways out.
Any 3.55s laying around? I need to ditch these 4.10s

Our IDI and PStroke are 4.10 geared.

Ill check tire size. The inner duals are steel from the factory.

The tires are some sort of all-terrain.

I know someone with pizza cutter KM2s.lol

If i had something else to drive id say ill trade you my 3.55s for your 4.10s. but it cant be down more then a day

We got a little off topic. I was referring to the gears in my dually. They are 4.10s so she screams down the highway.

Yea i know ive got 3.55s in my idi but its on 35s soon to be 40s lol id prefer 4.56s but if you wanted a straight trade i could deal with 4.10s

As usual, slow progress.
Got the steering all done. I dont like my drag link setup. I will change it in the future. I wasnt thinking. I should have made it the same legth as the panhard bar.
I have yet to take the truck down the road to see how much better it rides. The only steering only allowed me to get up to about 40 mph.

But I picked up an electric 1354 last night for $50. I bet very few clean Acura's have ever had a transfer case in their trunk lol. I would like to make a doubler this winter. My truck has the 1350 in it so I will cut mine up. Not sure what I am going to do about the electric part yet. I would like to keep the electric but I am not sure what all is invloved. I am sure it wants to know that I am in N and stopped. I can get a harness for $5 at the local junkyard if it is not super complex.

just extend the wires to keep the 1354 E case functioning as usual and use a 1350 M case for the crawlbox. You will also need to grab a aerostar speedo cable to reach the rear case

That is my plan. There are more wires than I thought there would be lol. I hope none of them go to sensors. Wires should be easier to route than new linkage.

That is good to know on the speedo.

Had the truck out for some yard work. Sandy took out one of my rotten beech trees

your flex problem is the radius arm set up on the front, the way the radius arms are attached to the axle from the factory pretty much makes the front axle
a huge sway bar, i would ditch the idea about longer radius and just build a 3 link, one upper and 2 lowers, and your track bar, that should give you all the flex you will need and then some...

I agree. Just need some time. I want to convert my dually to 4x4 first though. That ranger has been put on the back burner lol

I thinki most of the problem is in the rear arm bushing. If I back that nut off like 3 threads, it flexes like crazy. That led me to think the front bushing setup is fine. Plus there are plenty of guys on here that run the wedge axle mount setup and have plenty of flex
