I wanna know stuff... you guys suck. Between waiting on my vacation pay to get here so i can finally be ranger owner again and this secret motor im goin nuts

OK. A freind of a friend deal.

I got a 351M / T-18 / NP205 with both drive shafts from a '79 Bronco lined up. The engine runs
and was rebuilt recently. I know the 351M is the grunt of them all, but that is fine. I dont need all that power.

I also got a Holley Truck Advenger carb lined up.
$350 for all of this. I will do it if I can sell my 1354E and doubler shaft

I would probably sell the 205 for a Dana300, but that can wait.

I just have a lot of unknowns. I dont know anything about carbs. I also dont know how I would get the clutch to work as I believe the T18 is not hydraulic. I know people have done it. I just have to research.

I know the 351M is not sought after and is a big heavy engine. I dont need the power. I dont need the weight either haha. I have some research to do...

If you wanna go that heavy id do a 469/429. Really you dont need more power (yet) its good for future upgrades though. Id just be worried about the weight

Yeah, weight is my biggest concern. Maybe I can sell it for a 351W or 302. The trans and tcase are what got my attention. The slower the better.

Heck, it might even be a 351W. I just assume it is a 351M coming for a late 70s for truck.

If its a 351w thatd be sick (and the same setup i want in my 97) but seems like a good price my tcase/tranny was 300

Good to know.
He wants $225 for the engine, trans, case and driveshafts. I cant pass that up.

If it's the factory drivetrain from a '79, that would NOT be a T18. It would be an NP435. Not that it really matters, they're real similar.

I have a NP435 in mine and the hydraulic clutch works fine. I used a Speedway push style slave cylinder and the factory master cylinder. Bracket was just a piece of angle iron with holes drilled in it, although it bolts onto a hydraulic clutch style small block bell housing. Your 351M bellhousing wouldn't have a provision for that so you'd have to mount the slave cylinder somewhere else.

Ideally for you, I think the 351M is a total waste of time. They are big, heavy, gas sucking, inefficient turds that were designed during the worst of the smog years. But if it's all ya got and gas mileage is not an issue at all, go for it, it's better than some alternatives.

Thanks for the input. The gas hog part doesnt bother me. I got other vehicles for saving gas haha.

I thought it would be the 435 too. I had a 79 F250 once and it had the T18/19 trans for some reason. I figured this would be the same. I will take either one. I am intereted in that low first gear.

Would I be able to find a bell housing that will mate the 435 to say a 302 or 351W?

Yes, any bellhousing that was attached to a 300-6, 302, 351W, etc AND a NP435, T18 or T19 will work.

I'd look for a '82-up 4 speed truck for a donor since they all would have the hydraulic clutch bellhousing. The difference is basically two bolt holes cast into it to bolt on the slave cylinder; pre-82 does not have this.

I can find those trucks all day long out here. I will persue that option.

4.0 OHV with an adapter plate to mate it to a NP435 would be the perfect setup in an RBV IMO.

Bullet proof with low end power and parts are still easy to come by for the 4.0 and you can run off the shelf harnesses and electronics.
