Hello,
New to this site, like what I see so far. Now, can some one help me out. Going to replace the fuel pressure regulator on my 1988 2.9L. Went to unplug the inertia switch to relieve fuel pressure. But the last owner has somehow bypassed it and is no longer in the truck. Question is, how do you relieve the fuel pressure if the switch is gone. I have looked where its suppose to be, under the dash, and looked to see if it has been placed else where. No luck, would appreciate if some one might have the answer.:icon_confused:

easiest way is to remove the fuel pump fuse under the hood while its running then after it stalls crank the engine for a few second to remove most of the remaining fuel in the lines. just remember dont put the fuse back in until your done doing any repair so you dont spray fuel everywhere or re-pressurize the system on accident like i have lol idk if the 88 is different than mine which is 90 but i cant remember the fuse number but it should say it on the cover if it still has writing on it.

On your 88 there will be a Fuel pump relay on the passengerside fender, near the firewall. It should be green..If not, then have someone turn the key on (engine off) and listen for the click or hold the relay you suspect as it.

When running, just pull that relay out and it'll die...Check the pressure at the rail to make sure it's really depressurized and have at it.

And get another inertia switch installed ASAP. Safety issue, it would reek to be in a wreck and burn because of saving a few dollars for a switch.
