Ok, just a general question, but i have a few fuel cans, and they have this spill safety feature, and im really sick of them. First of all they take forever to fill stuff up, and half the time i end up spilling while taking it out of my atv tank. the other can i have the device on the nozzle that lets it pour broke and i cant even pour the fuel out of that one. So what im asking is there other alternatives, seems all i can find is the spillsafe or whatever the feature is called around here. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Chris

See, that's why when I heard they were gonna start with that feature a couple years back, I went out an bought four cans. Looking back, I wish I would have bought more since you can't get anything without those stupid nozzles now. Stupid government safety regs....

I'd try to see if I could find a regular nozzle that would fit your can and use that. Or you could do what I did even though I don't have one of those stupid nozzles... I picked up one of those long funnels and when fueling my Ranger, I'd just skip the nozzle on the can, shove the end of the funnel in the filler neck, and fill away.

What is he talking about exactly?

I just wished my gas cans had VENTS on them for a smooth pour!

BTW the best gas cans you can buy are those 5 gallon steel "Eagle" saftey cans. They don't have ventilation holes, but they still pour smooth.

edit: great just googled this: http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=251551

Now I got a project!! Got six plastic cans that need modded.

They put out a law a couple years ago for safety anti-spill nozzles on fuel cans... now all fuel cans have a spring loaded nozzle that is designed so you're supposed to press it against the filler neck of whatever you're pouring into to start the flow, and when you let off pressure it closes and stops pouring.

Except I haven't heard of anyone who likes the feature, everyone seems to complain that it doesn't work right and they usually end up spilling gas or breaking the nozzle.

I actually like some the features. Since its hard to balance a 5gal can while trying to fill the tractor and not miss the 2in hole while pouring. Now I can flip the can over, insert spout, and press the leveler to start pouring.

My dad on the other hand, hates them. He curses me for buying the dang things. Then again, my dad curses anything that he's not use to.

I can still buy the "old" style cans new at any store :icon_confused:

In fact, this is the first time I have even heard of these things.

Depends on the state I think.
In Md all you can buy is the safety (sure to spill ) nozzle cans. In WV you can still buy the other cans.

I have 4 of these: two red and two yellow. They are Justrite safety cans. They are expensive since the new law. They are worth it. They don't spill or dribble when you pour. They don't swell up in the sun. They don't fall over in the back of the truck. If they did fall over, they won't spill. Those ventless cans really, really suk. I got rid of the half dozen various plastic cans with the little caps and nozzles missing when I got these.

Just went to TSC, OMG!!!! they wanted $11.52 for a 2 GALLON PLASTIC GAS CAN!!!:icon_rofl::dunno::sad::annoyed::shok:

...and yeah all their cans besides the 5 gallon Eagle saftey can was this new B.S. design!

Um, lets see a 5 gallon STEEL Eagle saftey can for $34, or a TWO gallon plastic with all the safety features for $11.52!

I cannot believe we Americans put up with this? Land of the regulated and the enslaved! It is scary that the Government has this kind of power, screw tainted peanut butter, we are going to fix your gas cans!

Well I will be stocking up on "Old stock" gas cans, there are a few good old fashion hardware stores with old stocks.

BTW anyone know what these new regs will do to the 5 gallon "military jeep" style cans? I've noticed a few places still have them.

Since the law has been in effect (at least in PA) for about 3 or 4 years now... I don't think you have much to worry about.

Same here in PA. I see rangrnewbie is in PA, although I don't know where in PA.
I live in western PA where I am told you can cross the border to OH and get a normal gas can. Also you can still get oil-based paint in OH.
In my opinion I spill a lot more gas with the spill-proof cans than I did a normal gas can. More stupid govt meddling. If elected, I will introduce legislation called the "Bathroom Free Choice Act" which will allow freedom-loving Americans to once again purchase a toilet that flushes properly.
Just got done putting 10 gallons out of cans into my Trac and spilling some down the side, as always.
A local grocery store/convenience store chain has a deal where every $50 you spend gets you 10 cents off a gallon of gas up to 30 gallons. My Sport Trac holds 20 gallons, so hey, I got two 5 gallon cans I take with me.

JohnnyO, im from between altoona and johnstown, and thats what brought this up. We get fuel from giant eagle in the same type of program and we get all the fuel we can for cheap after buying stuff from there. I bought a can went to pour it in my 4 wheeler, and the end broke, and spilled all over it, its a brand new quad just dont like having gasoline all over it. Guess next time i leave the state ill have to check.
