I am about to change the front hub on my 98 ranger 4x4 and I was wondering would I be able to fit the 01 and up full time locked hubs on the 98? other wise I have found the hubs on parttrain.con for $176.

any help would be great. thanks

I am pretty sure you cannot as the hub assemblies for those two years are different, but I have a 99 and an 03 axle, and they appear the same. You can definitely do it if you get the knuckles with them as well. I just took out my 99 axle and put in a complete 03 axle because I hated those hubs.

I got the entire assembly from a junkyard for 150.

I am about to do just the opposite. I intend to put lockouts on my 02.
From your experience what would it take to change my o2 back to the vac hubs. Of course I won't install the vac hubs I will put in the aftermarket hubs.
There is a Junk yard nearby that has a bunch of sploders and I'm sure I can get whatever parts I need in one trip.. Can you give me a list of what to bring home?

You need the following:
98-01 CV axles (held in with Circle Clips instead of Bolt)
98-01 Hub Assembly ie the Unit Bearing
98-01 Steering Knuckle---However it seems to me that the hub assembly may bolt into the newer knuckles as well, but I am not certain.

If its a junkyard where you take the stuff off yourself, then I would just get the CVs and Hub and then take off the steering knuckle and hide it somewhere. That way if the hub ends up bolting up, you saved yourself some money, and if not, you know where you can get a knuckle.

Good Luck

thanks mazda I think I will just replace the problem and hope for the best. I already have my pvh locked so I have a live front axle any way just to get that damn thing off with out breaking them damn tabs ( man that was a great Idea!!!!) any who thanks.

Thanks! I will do the deed and then we will all know for sure what the milage loss is... As well as I won't have all that iron spinning for no reason.
