On my '94 Ranger 4X4 I just repacked and adjusted the front wheel bearings.

All bearings were good with no pits or problems.

I cleaned the bearings out first with brake cleaner and let them dry.

Then repacked with the Hi -Temp grease for disc brakes.

Assembled and torqed per the book.

No wiggle/ not too tight turning the rotor by hand.

Took a test drive-- no noises/ no pulling to one side/ nice and straight.

Question-- after driving about ten miles with very little braking the hubs seemed pretty hot, but not too hot to the touch. I have manual hubs and they work like they should. Hot should the hub area be or get???:icon_idea:

Depends on how much you use your brakes. If you didn't use the brakes much, then I wouldn't think they'd be very warm at all.

Going by the book... You made sure to note that the preload (inner) nut final torque is in inch-lbs, correct? (not foot-lbs) I ask only because I know others have made that mistake and burnt up a few sets of bearings before realizing.

On 7/13 checked the front hub temps on both front and they were both right at 140 deg. F (outside temp was 95 deg. F).....after 100 miles on the highway.

When reassembling I--

tightened the inner lock nut to 35 foot pounds while turning the rotor to seat the bearing.

next while turning the rotor the inner lock nut was backed off 1/4 of a turn,
then tighten the inner lock nut finger tight (16 inch pounds)

next installed the lock washer (the one with all the holes) making sure to align the pin and hole

next installed the outer lock nut and tightened to 150 foot pounds (making sure that the inner locknut did not accidentally tighten up)

next installed the axle shaft spacer

next installed the snap ring

next installed the hub assy. over the spindle.

next installed the wheel....

Thanks for trying to help out.
