Ok so I finally woke up and bought a 4x4 instead of a Honda. Since I'm new to 4x4s I got a question. K I got a 99 xlt. My vacuum lock wasn't working so I did the hub mod. Now my front axel spins while I'm driving and the switch is in the 2WD position. The front tires don't pull as if they were in 4 but the axel does. Does this have to do with me locking my hubs? If not what else could it be? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

I meant front drive shaft not axels. My bad

If you permanently locked the hubs in then yes, your driveshaft will spin all the time. If you don't want it to spin, then I'd suggest swapping a set of AVM manual hubs on it. The driveshaft spinning doesn't hurt anything beyond maybe a 0.3-0.5 MPG penalty however.

so the driveshaft spins, but not throught he t-case with this mod? just trying to wrap my mind around the concept.

No, the driveshaft is spinning even as it enters the transfer case. It is just free wheeling though. It is not connected inside the case, therefore it is receiving no power.

When you flip into 4X, the shift fork slide over and locks the collar, therefore engaging 4WD.

All 2001 up Ranger's do not have hubs, and the system they use is identical to what your's is doing. Spinning all the time.

It is perfectly fine, and to be honest, one less thing to worry about not engaging when you need it.

Thanks for the replies and the info. I kinda figired that but I jus had to make sure from people with more experience then me.
